I would concur that Freshwater causes more problems than Saltwater. The main cause of rot on my timber cruiser was from the ingress of rainwater through a leaking deck. The bilges hold a small amount of water which does not seem to be a problem.

Thanks for the reply's, I probably did not explain myself very well. I was trying to describe the distance between the back face of the OB where it sits against the transom and the front face of the clamps that tighten against the inside of the transom. 65mm does not seem a lot.

Its in the picture, pardon my ignorance if that is not what its called. The anchor chain runs through the large hole or rather I assume it does as it does not have an anchor or chain at the moment
