When is it time to scrape off antifoul ?

If the antifouling is peeling off in patches this is down to poor hull preparation in the first place perhaps lack of a tie coat or further down the line incompatible antifouling coats. It should not be a problem after 8 years. If it can be easily scraped off that is an option or slurry blast...

    Teak grating

Teak oil marks everything especially walk off surfaces and cotton, it also attracts dirt like a magnet. My teak deck, rope boxes and teak garden furniture at home is all treated with Boracol which soaks in. No staining, it is a biocide kills mould and algae, stops dirt build up. Treat it leave a...

    Anodes

You can get a good electrician the check your boat on its berth, it could be a problem with the pontoon electrics or a near by boat. A well sized anode should last a season loose about 40% of it’ Zinc and be replaced then. Start with the basics check connectivity and all items as well as...

    Anodes

Start at the beginning , it has failed due to electrolysis due to a connectivity problem, corroded terminals or slat water on wiring, an electrical problem with boat or pontoon electrics or another problem on a near by boat. As said above inspect for connectivity and condition of all metal...

    Sludge or bug?

Most boat fuel tanks are not built with a sump and a stripping ability to remove water, crud etc. Over the years water and general crud build up and eventually reach the level of the pickup line and cause problems. As I said a dirty tank that needs, treating, cleaning and the remaining fuel...

    VAT on possible temporary export

I did not follow the OP's original Idea 18 months in Med the bring it back to the UK. If new boat is a UK build it is useful too have it near by to factory for warranty issues. Warranty issues are complex to sort out in a small port in the middle of nowhere and very time consuming. A friend told...

    VAT on possible temporary export

I know, it is not quite the Med weather wise but assuming you are a UK resident, You could buy the boat VAT free, moor it in Guernsey or Jersey and use it tax free for a year or two (or More?) tax free, de snag it in CI and either send to the med for 18months tax free and import it paying VAT...

Any idea where I can buy these?

Normally going back a few years the above waterline skin fittings for sink, shower or deck drains were plastic rather than composite. Sometimes they snap off on hose tails as they become brittle. Most hood chandleries stock them, inspect or replace the hose to it and check all jubilee clips.

Talamex Dinghy - fixed oars annoying - any other options?

It has certainly been a wet winter, at least every time it rains people are no longer saying " ah but the ground needs it" !

Talamex Dinghy - fixed oars annoying - any other options?

IIRC, The plastic collar that the oar attaches slots through has a rivet stopping it sliding up or down? drill that out and position it where you want and then re rivet it, drill the ally oar out to the same diameter as the original hole and bobs your uncle. The pin fixed to the dinghy that...

D6 Impeller change, Lifespan, recommended change, safeside. ?

I agree with Oldgit. An impeller when the engine is stopped has a couple of blades distorted and that is where they sit for the winter unless removed. If you change an impeller and it has no bits missing and no cracks it has done its job. If there have been bits missing where are they , you...

    Chain finish

Don't use Black it will rust like hell. I have only ever seen galvanised or stainless chain on a yacht. If you are using a windlass the chain will need to be calibrated so that it fits the gypsy on the windlass, if it is not calibrated it id unlikely to fit and it will slip or jam. A good...

    Overheating exhaust into Vetus mufflers

If you have clear plastic lids on your seastrainers you will see if there is an air leak into the cooling seawater upstream of that but not after.
