It's easy to fit a water feed to the stern tube so why not fit one whether it is needed or not, then you have no worries?

Impact adhesive works perfectly well. No need for hot glue. Keep the sander speed down and the backing pad won't get wrecked...

If it's the fresh water side then the calorifier must be empty and obviously it's not.

Slacken one of the connections from the engine to the calorifier and that should release any trapped air.
