I am looking for recommendations for a reliable road transport company to bring 30' sailing yacht from Yorkshire to Bristol Channel to a nearby marina nearest M5/4 with suitable lifting facilities.
I can't come by sea as yacht is already inland!

you can launch at Portishead or Penarth, or Cardiff Marina, for transport I would speak to some Yorkshire, or Nothern, brokers to see if they may be able to advise on a back load?

Hi

We use a local guy for boat transport, based near Aberaeron, he has a 11 ton Hi-Ab on his artic' so can lift straight on or off his low loader, he knows what he is doing so no problems there, not sure what sort of price he would want for Yorkshire to Bristol Channel, but why not give him a ring? Lea Colman 078813700249.
He moved my Sadler 25 from Ipswich to Aberaeron a couple of years ago, very efficient.

I've used Boat Transport Ltd into Portishead and they were excellent but they are a South Coast-based company so it would probably have to be a back load for them to be competitive. Give owner / driver Geoff Houghton a ring on 07831 486710. I trust his judgement so if he could recommend someone Northern-based then, personally, I'd take it.

Portishead has a straddle carrier and a nice yard so, once your boat is off-loaded, the mast can be stepped ashore if you wish before the boat is carried across the road and launched. Also, Portishead is very close to Jct 19 M5 and Avon & Somerset Police do not demand an escort vehicle - which is not the case for all marinas.

I am always impressed by the care the Portishead Marina team take when launching and recovering boats. ( They're also used a lot by the RNLI for their bigger lifeboats - so they know what they are doing). You can contact the Marina on 01275 841941

Portishead Marina is the only one truly as such on the "English" side, with its own cranes. I cant find anything about lifting in at Sharpness or Gloucester

It cost me £800 12 years ago when I could launch at Uphill/Weston but thats ended. So expect nearer £1500 plus of course Portishead Marina fee of about £150. Hope shes worth it.

Lift in/out is possible at Sharpness. They have a 50 ton(ne) crane and coped with my vessel's 9 tonnes. I believe there are also facilities at Upton (on the Severn).

Thanks for all the advice.
Got 2 quotes around £1,000 but my bid not accepted for the boat so the problem now passed.
Haulage cos. need some business at present.
Got a good quote then, as you say hauliers must be keen to get business right now.

Well if you manage to buy another boat at Covid reduced prices, and hauliers still keen then it would still come out well.

Have you tried John hamer? Based in cardiff marina. He was very reasonable when i needed a boat transportation of around 450 miles. Google him.
