The Hellenic Yacht Charter Association...

and law 238 forbid chartering of yachts from Greek ports by anyone other than a greek national. This anti-competition protectionism has been allowed to exist by the EU for some time now having had it's date for cessation extended at least twice. It means that any owner must sign away 51% of his vessel to a Greek partner and be "measured" & inspected for minimum safety equipment levels before it can operate in Greece. My Bavaria 42 operates in this way in the Aegean.

For boats of the size you are looking for I suggest you try an operator like Artemis Yachting who operate out of Gouvia Marina in Corfu. Is is actually operated by an englishman called Howard Cutting but the boats are legally owned by Howard's Greek partner. There is a good selection of craft which are privately owned but managed for the owners in Greece by Artemis.

They are on 0161 973 3323

Unofficial chartering can lead to all sorts of documentation & nsurance problems.

Hope this is of help

Why Greece??? For around £300 air-ticket return to Thailand you can come and join us on our 50ft colin archer design steel cutter, and cruise the indian ocean! We've been in the South Andaman sea for the last 8 months and know all the best cruising grounds.
We are a British couple who have been cruising the Indian Ocean for the last 2 years +++ and we share our home with interesting people for a contribution of around £30 per day (inc all food) - sorry we do not offer bareboat (where would we live?) We have 9 berths in total - aft double is ours - guest cabins are 2 large singles in the foscle, double mid-ship, small double saloon, and single saloon.
