With ESE winds forecast this weekend, can anyone suggest a reasonably sheltered place to drop anchor for a few hours?
Is the West side of Portland an option, ie, in the area around Wallsend Cove or Blacknor Point?
Would Lulworth and Worbarrow Bay be okay?

The western side of Portland is Lyme Bay which is dominated by Chesil Beach. This may be a world heritage site but it is low lying and boring to look at. The west side of Portland looks untidy where the quarries chuck unwanted stone over the cliff edge. It would be quite sheltered but then you have to get round Portland Bill and back.
Overall the north side of Weymouth bay is probably reasonably sheltered and a lot more interesting.

That’s where the P&O fleet plus QM are hiding

Thanks for the replies here and just a quick update.
We got to Lulworth at about 14.00 had lunch and tea but the atmosphere ashore put us off, lots of booming music and large noisy crowds. We then moved round to Worbarrow where it was nearly deserted, we've only been once here once before and that was by car and taking the long walk down to the Bay. Probably one of our favourite spots now.

Glad you had a good time Colin, the solent was not the place to be with aircraft falling out of the sky ;-).
