With the good weather over the summer the vhf range was greatly increased and while ploughing back and forth through the north sea I heard some very amusing vhf conversations. Now I know you aren't allowed to reveal what you heard but I can't remember the actual name of the boat so it doesn't matter.

Yacht...
"This is yacht Nonsuch calling the large merchant vessel on my starboard side, what would you like me to do?"

Silence,

Yacht...
"This is yacht Nonsuch calling the large merchant vessel on my starboard side, what would you like me to do?"

After a short pause an unidentified voice came over the radio...
"If you don't know Nonsuch, turn around and take up D.I.Y.!"

Ah the endless pleasure of seafarer's humour.

p.s. Why do all yachties say "over" in the same irritating way?
