I quote an excert from the latest update from AFPOP the expat organisation.

"As you will know the restrictions on travel over the Easter period will come into force at midnight tonight (Wednesday 8th) and will last until midnight on Monday 13th April. During this period no-one is allowed to travel outside of their municipality of residence, unless they need to do so for work and have a letter from their employer stating the reasons for their travel. The police have already begun issuing fines for people infringing the new restrictions on unnecessary travel and it’s highly probable that they will have zero tolerance for people not adhering to the instructions over Easter. You should expect that police will be at the boundaries of all municipalities stopping and checking vehicles trying to pass from one to the other over the Easter weekend.
All Portuguese airports for all international flights in and out of Portugal are also closed for this period. "

Hi Greeny,

Many thanks for this timely reminder.

On board in a marina, because of the high percentage of over 65s, all are observing strict social isolating but an increasing fear is that after the total shutdown in air traffic (until after Easter), berth-holders from Northern Europe will be clamouring to return to their boats and thereby compromise the integrity of our isolation.

If, heaven forbid, they bring the virus into the marina, when our very isolation on the pontoons, could become our greatest danger.

Think I read somewhere that all arrivals in Portugal have to go into 14 days mandatory quarantine but hopefully this will not be on board their boat in a busy marina with shared absolutions.

All a bit worrying.

This has been our concern and it was a big relief when the lock down came , there are many boats from northern Italy as well as all over Europe ,
At the moment we feel as safe as anyone can , we have people here who are well into their 70 and like so with under line problem , I think most know from previous years some catches a cold and before you know it most of the marina as it .
We banking that when the time comes that Italy opens up again we can get out of the marina and continue isolating on anchor before other return.

From experience, the is no risk from boats arriving in Portugal. They are denied landing rights, prevented from anchoring and sent on their way.

The concern is berth-holders flying in to return to their boats in the middle of marinas populated with a number of elderly liveaboards. Whilst social distancing is challenging the real problem is touching shared facilities.

Understand that folk in Cornwall are voicing similar concerns over second home owners returning to their holiday homes.

Are you referring to the bridge over the Guadiana at Ayamonte.

I have been told people with a boarding pass can travel from Spain over this bridge to Faro on the day of their flight.

Not sure about Easter but also open to goods vehicles, cross border workers and repatriation but think those are quarantined - don't know how/where.

Friends arrived back to Portugal from Barbados via London some 18 days ago and were told nothing at the airport. Being good citizens they did their own isolation for 14 days and are now as free as the rest of you. Not very.

Anyone arriving in the Azores has to stay in a hotel for 14 days or until tested negative. But then we are an autonomous region with our own government that took a firm stance before the mainland.

Incidentally, the national easter travel restriction limiting us to our municipality ends at midnight tonight - April 13th.

Likewise on the mainland.
