I'm heading down Friday to have a good nose although it's only a 'soft-opening.

The ONLY boat show I pay to go to in my free time, and I've done a few!

anyone else?

What in the name of flying flamingos is a “ soft opening “ ? , is this another cov- antic term ?

I think, given that’s it was postponed and obviously not on last year they maybe a bit out of practice and want / need to get their head around any COVID restrictions.

Or they just need the Friday to turn up for the long weekend ahead !

I can only do Friday sadly as soft openings or trade days tend to be half open !

But it’s for a good cause.

Not going as Straight Across not on the Thames. Been attending since the late 80's, was vice chairman at one point (when Fred Bourne & myself took over in about 1992) and have only missed a few, usually because we were coastal cruising. But typically a sisterboat of SA is coming this year, Leander, owner has had for over twenty years, appears to be in almost new condition, and he's been to south of France in it etc. Would have loved to have seen it - saw her only once at Bosham in a delipidated state mid 80's.

We used to live Riverside on Lower Teddington road. One of the houses had a big anchor outside with Leander written on it. Probably still there. About opposite the primary school.

House owned by the National Car Parks man Donald Gosling.

Bizarrely I have been in his house as I sunk a dinghy full of kids outside there in 1989.

It is indeed still there. The late Sir Donald Goslings estate. Said owner of LEANDER G although now sold (twice).

The whole state made up of four houses is for sale. I think 15m will buy all four

Anyway quite a lot of varnish turning up at Henley. Might have a little cruise up the reach later for inspection purposes although being a non relevant craft I am not allowed in their lane.

Still one can observe from a social distance, which seems to be quite a good approach actually.

Will have my children on board so it's up to them what we do this evening.

Spent a good few hours there today. Quieter (and colder !) than usual but it’s a Friday with many more to come.

Just wondered round, met some friends who were moored up on the meadow, had a couple of pints and home in less than an hour. My friends are now taking two days to do the same by boat ;)

Well worth the 8 quid to get in. I suspect the next few days will be more lively.

Glad I went.

We stayed down at the ranch so a run up through Henley all guns blazing tomorrow is the order of the day.

I have requested close air support but yet to hear from the lads about whether they will be able to clear the reach of obstructions.

Quite nice to see some pleasant boats around makes a bit of a change from the plastic which is so dominant on this lovely River.

This is Leander a few years ago, and at Burnes of Bosham mid to late 80's.

I always really liked those boats since starting on the River back in the 90s.
There used to be one about half a mile down from Old Windsor lock, on the towing path side. Then there was the old Pole Star up at Clifton Hampden I saw that somewhere else forgot where is it at Better Boating? Still afloat which surprised me as looked a bit nackered.
Also used to be one at the Stanley and Thomas moorings below Black Potts.

Not sure about the one below Old Windsor (but would love to), Brave Molly (previously Jumbuck) was at Stanley and Thomas but recently being repaired on the Broads. Minita was broken up at Caversham. Pole Star (previously Gay Morn, and used to be outside a house above Bray lock) still seems to be for sale. Somebody said there was one at Thames Ditton called Sumuida.
