The Ha’penny Pier pontoons will be open for overnight stays from 4 July 2020.

The following restrictions for usage of Ha'penny Pier pontoons will apply:

  • From Saturday 4 July leisure vessels will be permitted to berth overnight on the pontoons...

    Maximum stay is 2 nights.

    No fees
    will be charged.

No toilet or shower facilities will be available.
  • A Pier Master will be on duty between the hours of 9am – 4pm. Telephone: 07748 154039.
  • Please ensure your vessel is seaworthy and check the forecast to reduce the need for emergency services to be called to assist.
  • Do not share lines and always tie up yourself - do not rely on others to help.
  • No rafting up is permitted.
  • Rubbish must be bagged in black sacks. The filled sack should then be left outside the Pier Master’s office between 9am - 4pm.
  • Social distancing should be adhered to at all times (2 metres/6ft).
  • Please avoid direct contact with our Pier Masters and maintain a distance of 2 metres (6ft) to help them…help you.
  • Do not enter the Pier Master’s office, located on Ha’penny Pier.
  • Aggressive and abusive behaviour towards members of our staff will not be tolerated.
  • The area is under 24-hour CCTV surveillance.

I don’t like rafting anyway , people clumping across my deck every 5 mins

Or finding the outside boat's crew drinking beer with their dog, friends etc in your cockpit when you return to the boat in Southwold?!

And made to feel like Victor Meldrew when you say 'Hey fellas, that's my boat, do you mind?'

Perhaps it is not just the separation, but the possibility of contamination of surfaces, hand rails etc, that could transfer the virus?

That so called possibility can be leveled at any public open space ...
Furthermore, there is no way that any contamination/infection could be proved to have transferred from touching a surface that may have been touched by someone with the virus. ... expecially when the said surface is in open air and exposed to UV.

People in positions of so called authority need to be more realistic about infection risks and stop assuming 100% certainty in every situation. The "you might catch it" approach is far to easy to trot out and stop us living for no benefit.

I feel your response is far too polite and typically well mannered. I am certainly of this mold but if I encountered this situation,
whoever they may be, my response would be " what the f**k are you up to? Clean up now and go".
If such crew want to understand how to socialise they should learn how to behave and not invade personal space. Otherwise...grrrr

Still no one on Ha’penny Pier .

Shame about the heavy winds . I expect everyone still founds lots of jobs to
on their boats.

I had a lovely lunchtime kip.
