2020 updates for alerting other YBW users to Thames River conditions and other urgent information for river users.

Any registered forum user can post a message on this thread (and this thread only for reasons that will become clear) if there is a sudden change in conditions or other urgent information. With the number of people here out and about and living on the river, this has proved to be a very valuable tool.

If you want to receive alerts, click on 'Thread Tools' at the top of this thread and select 'Subscribe To This Thread' from the dropdown. Then select 'Instant Notification by Email' and then click on 'Add subscription'.

If you do this, ANY post to this thread will automatically be emailed to your registered email address. Provided you have a mobile with email capability you will then receive messages as they are posted without needing to visit the website.

Please note this thread is not for general discussion and ONLY to report river/weather conditions and other urgent information which may be helpful to river users so please, do not post here unless that is the case.

Latest EA stream warnings/status are available here:

Yellow Boards start their journey (17th March 2020) from the top and at the bottom.
For thos who stay fixed in your moorings - fear not, Fallen trees and sunk boats, remain to to thwart the intrepid (nay, foolhardy) from venturing out.
Clocks spring forward soon and all, suddenly will be peachy....

Much easier to sign up for email alerts (for one or more stretches of the River Thames) and be alerted in your inbox rather than having to browse this forum. And/or you can install (on Apple devices) shortcuts that can be used to ask Siri for the current conditions on any selected stretch of the river.
Instructions on how to sign up for free email alerts (NO ads!) and/or install relevant Siri Shortcuts here - anyone having trouble making these work can email me for help.

AND
The Shortcuts I have created also work on the Apple Watch - the super cool sailor will raise his or her wrist and say 'Hey Siri, Shiplake to Marsh' (or whatever section you want) and hear the current conditions for the chosen section.
You will need to install any shortcuts on your iPhone, iPad or iPod before you can use them on the Watch; instructions here

All red by the end of yesterday, made for an interesting trip back to Benson on our hire boat. The lock keeper at Days lock said that once we went through he was closing the lock. Interesting trip but wish the boat had a little more power!

Now you can have one or more widgets (updated in real time) on your smartphone and/or tablet screen showing the current conditions for selected stretches.
