There was a piece in the Western Morning News about this. They did not mention wasting disease, water quality, dredging, sewage or agricultural run off.
The only explanation, in the 600 word piece, for seagrass loss was: "global warming and activities such as anchoring"

.

The seagrass planting was actually sponsored by the RYA, I think we can assume they are hostile to the interests of cruisers, or they need to reign in their social media / environmental people. I would normally be supportive, but given the recent context.

The mindset in the RYA is at best that of a 'Governing Body', just look at all the direction that the kick out, most recently in the farce of an online seminar on " Anchoring and Mooring with Care" which I sat through (that was an hour or so of life wasted), what it is obvious that they are not is a body there to represent the interests of its members.

"Loveday Trinick" I thought the toffs were meant to like yachts. How things change.

From what I saw from afar during the Bank Holiday weekend, there were still lots of boats (majority small motor boats) in the relevant area ...

There are no restrictions in place yet. MMO was overwhelmed at the response to their Consultations, and are waking up to the fact this is a very popular anchorage.

Yes, it was fairly busy when I anchored there on Tuesday. As usual I anchored on the NE edge of the proposed restricted area in 3.5m of clear water with a sandy bottom. Not much good if one wants to go ashore although fine for my lunchtime sandwich!

Email today from MMO as a result of the feedback they are putting the brakes on hard, and planning further discussion based on 'educating the public' about their approach to the conservation issues. I also strongly suspect they have looked at the whole scenario of deploying AMS's in the light of what we and others have been saying about the practicalities - or impracticalities of using them, as well as the likely ongoing costs.

There will definitely not be any anchoring restrictions this season at any rate.

Excellent news. Perhaps they will spend more time pursuing worthwhile conservation projects like restoring the kelp beds off the Sussex coast. Destroyed in the 1987 storm and not regenerated because of bottom trawling - now banned and home to many more seahorses than Studland. But of course NGM and friends would not find that a congenial place to do a spot of diving!

It was very busy midweek when I arrived 9ish earlier in the week and didn't fancy bridges in the dark after 8 hours solo. Hopefully they have bitten off more than they can chew and nobody needs to make a scene.

Thanks Old Harry, and thanks again for the time and effort that you and Marlynspike have dedicated to this cause. You have both made a big difference.

It's a step in the right direction. But the main battle which is to get fact based science, and not just assumption as the basis for future recommendations remains. There is a basic shift required here in the whole field of marine biology. Just because species A behaves in a particular way it cannot be assumed related species will do the same. RYAs refusal to challenge the science stems from this same advice from its own specialists.

Just read that MMO have written to the RYA of their moderate approach to management plans for Studland Bay.
Studland Bay: RYA receive reassurance from MMO of moderate approach to management plans (sail-world.com)
Feel this is more due to the efforts of the Boat Owners Response Group's efforts. So, a big thank you from me even though I have never anchored in Studland Bay. You have set the standard of defending the use of our coastal waters for boats and questioning the so called science used by conservationists.

I'll believe it when I see it... given the background (and likely career aspirations) of those responsible in the MMO, their view of moderate could still be a country mile from ours
