We need to see the details but I suspect overnights away from home are not yet allowed.

I can't see the club crane in happening yet under these restrictions as there would be too many people involved. We are working on the basis that we are a small boat and 2 of us can slipway launch it without having to wait for the club crane in.

And it will be subject to a phone call to the harbour master to make sure we are welcome at the harbour. I am confident we can get on and off the boat at the harbour without having contact with anybody, and I wouldn't go into the harbourmasters office for a blether.

So schools back in phase 3 or 11th August not looking good for sailing this season if you need to travel but if canoeing is allowed in phase 1 then I assume sailing is as well if you're 5 miles from the boat.

Phase 1:
Sport, culture and leisure activities: In this phase
we are planning to allow unrestricted outdoors
exercise adhering to distancing measures and
non-contact outdoor activities in the local area –
such as golf, hiking, canoeing, outdoor swimming,
angling – consistent with the wider rules and
guidance applicable to any activity in this phase.

I think I could get away with calling my sailboat a canoe! lol... or just take a fishing rod with me when I go sailing!

Website has crashed but STV have it posted on twitter. Travel is no more than 5 miles! oh well thats me not getting to the boat!
I have just looked at the official document. There is no mention of 5 miles in that. So I will print that page and take it with me in case I am challenged

this is what it says
Seeing family and friends: we are planning in
this phase to change regulations to permit people
to use public outdoor spaces for recreational
purposes, for example to sit in a public space.
We are also planning for one household to meet
up with another household outdoors, in small
numbers, including in gardens, but with physical
distancing required.

We expect no public gatherings except for
meetings of two households and only outdoors
and with physical distancing.

Getting around: Consistent with the reopening
of workplaces set out in this phase, where
home working is not possible, businesses and
organisations are encouraged to manage travel
demand through staggered start times and flexible
working patterns.

You will also be permitted to travel short
distances for outdoor leisure and exercise but
advice to stay within a short distance of your local
community and travel by walk, wheel and cycle
where possible.

As I say a grey area but I regard 20 miles as close to home. It is certainly not a long way from home.

It's not as relaxing as I would like. "Non-contact, outdoor activities in your local areas e.g. golf, hiking, canoeing, outdoor
swimming, angling." Does that cover sailing?
I'm sorry ProDave, the "5 miles" appears in the annex to the document.
I didn't realise 5 miles was their idea of local - my cycle rides have been a wee bit in excess of that - I wonder if I can claim the boat is within cycling distance => local?

Very ambiguous but there seem tobe no stated definition in the oficcial document. I regard 20 miles as local. 100 miles I would not.

International border health
measures are introduced.

The 5 mile limit is stated in the Appendix, "broadly within 5 mile" for Phase 1, Section "Getting Around".

Thanks,

I note that driving for leisure and exercise is explicitly allowed in Phase 2, so implied that it is not in Phase 1?

You are limited to 5 miles locally until Phase 3 when you can drive beyond locally. As I see it, you can go sailing if you are local to your boat (and the marina is open, if that is where your boat is) but not if your more than 5 miles away until later in the process of easing.

The five mile is a guideline the first minister has Just answered a question regarding holiday homes in parliament at 2.01 pm .
So A guideline and not enforceable , she is asking for common sense
Phase one would be walking , cycle , or short drive , again a guideline
Scotland is sparsely populated and boats are on the coast ,m it is not unreasonable to drive to your boat and exercise, leisure time , but no we cannot stay overnight yipeee

Thats how I see it FlyingGoose but will wait and see. No doubt, like in England, various bodies will start to communicate clarity e.g. RYA, BMF from now to next Thursday. What is clear, if you are within 5 miles of your boat, and can access it, I think, you can go sailing.
