I've acquired an all-metal waterline model of the above in SAF Marine colours.
It's about 36" long and is missing its 'water line' and, perhaps, its case.
She was built by John Brown in 1961 for Union Castle Line and did the regular Southampton/South Africa run.

Does anyone have any information on the ship and the model?

Thanks for your suggestion, but I don't 'do' FB.
I was hoping that I might read reminiscences from crew or passengers and, equally interesting, why the model is named SA Vaal and not its original RMS Transvaal Castle.
Not sure if you are still around. The Transvaal Castle was built as the sistership to Windsor Castle and on her maiden voyage you should have heard the noise they both made when the Transvaal entered Capetown where the Windsor Castle was berthed on her homeward run.

Safe marine a South African company whose CEO was Bomber Harris merged with Union Castle about 1965 and the Vaal was renamed with a Safemarine name S.A. Vaal.

I had just arrived in Capetown on the Windsor Castle after a three day passage from East London. What luxury compared to the freighters I was leaving at East London and then joining another at Capetown to return home working my passage .

Bomber Harris was a war time hero see Google
