Hi all,

What are peoples "real world" experiences for ocean sailing usage of the Raymarine HD colour radar vs Quantum 2 doppler?

Reason being, seen a boat we like and may end up buying and it has the HD colour radar on it and we currently have the Quantum 2 doppler radar on our current boat so could swap them over as the MFDs on both boats are compatible.

I know the Quantum 2 is solid state, 24Nm range, instant on, less power usage and newer BUT see the HD colour has 48Nm range, meant to have better weather detection, dual range etc

Erring towards keeping the Quantum 2 as newer but after real world opinions please, as the next boat we will do more crossings away from land etc

My vote would be for the quantum 2.

Lower power consumption, and the doppler velocity track are the killer features to me.

I don't think the range difference is really a deal breaker as you'll find it's very rare you had it on that range and when you do you may loose clarity where it matters within 12 Miles.

I assume we are comparing 18 inch raydome!?
