I bought 2 x 4108 engines intending to make one good one. I have rebuilt one of the pair and have many redundant parts from the other.
I don't want to through away useful parts.
I can offer the injector pump for £50, the oil cooler also for £50. I have 2 TMP gearboxes, one is good and the other works OK but there is corrosion around the water drain which now I have cleaned up may consequently leak! I can offer the good box for £100 and the other for spares at £50.
I will post any of the items at cost though the boxes will have to go on a pallet Alternatively they can be collected from my house in Colne Lancs at the end of the M65.

AHHH! The one on my boat and on my newly built 'spare' is a Serk. This being the the one that is usually bolted across the engine behind the rocker box.

I searched everwhere for one with no success. The two engines I bought had one between them and that is now on the rebuilt engine.

Some time ago in desperation (the casing on the boats engine is corroding) I bought one of the 'combined' header tank/exchanger/manifold units on ebay. Quite a nice unit but I would have had to
change the plumbing round a bit. I have just sold that unit but there seem to be a few around. One of those may suit you?
Also on ebay there is an American guy who sells a range of basic exchangers at reasonable prices. I could not see one with the cooling tube 'area' that the Serk has but have been told that the Serk
has far more cooling area than needed.
New exchanger 3.jpg Sorry I cant help further.

Cheers
Peter

I would be interested in your good TMP gearbox without the water leak for £100.

Is it the one with the eight 'bearing-ed dogs (?) that fit into the eight holes in the flywheel?

After some huffing and puffing unearthing the two units from the depths of the garage here they are!

Here are some pics of the two boxes 2019-08-19 10.59.51.jpg2019-08-19 11.00.10.jpg2019-08-19 11.00.28.jpg2019-08-19 11.00.50.jpg2019-08-19 11.02.25.jpg2019-08-19 11.10.29.jpg2019-08-19 11.10.46.jpg2019-08-19 11.11.11.jpg

The 'good' ( non corroded ) box does not have the 8 pin plate attached and has a 'different ' fitting at the propshaft end.
The numbers on the plates are..... good box 19Z 575 5666 corroded box 19Z 705 9227 ( last 4 not clear)

A close up shows the corroded bit which would no doubt repair.

If you want to swap bits around then you can have both for £100 plus 'postage'

I cut an inspection cover in my bell housing on the rebuild as I had a devil of a job locating the 8 pins !!

Hi there,

I think I'm going to give it a miss. I can't work out what's really involved with converting the input and output couplings over or repairing the water leak on the other.

Cheers all.
I have now scrapped the gearbox with the corroded drain outlet. I investigated it further and found that there was severe blocking of the box due to hardened sea water deposits. Tried prodding and flushing to know avail. A cautionary tale I guess, reminding me to drain and flush the box on my working engines!

Hi P Caterall,
As you can see, I’m a new member here, but have enjoyed reading all posts on a Perkins 4108. It’s my engine of choice, for the refit of an old 21ft fishing boat. I know it’s a long shot, as your post was sometime ago, but I’m hunting two parts, that seem to be impossible for me to find. The parts in question, are the two engine mounts, that bolt to the timing gear backplate, that then take the flexible mounts (pic attached). Do you by anychance have a pair?

Happy New Year to all. Now to ask for some advice/hep. My 4108 has a mechanical injection pump and I’m looking for part numbers for some fuel lines. Alas the only parts manual I can find, shows a hydraulic pump, are the fuel lines the same, or is there a parts manual showing the mechanical pump? Any help advice would be very gratefully received!
