Will fix now.
As a new owner of an Oyster 406 I have spent the buying period searching the web for details of the Oyster 406 prior to the purchase. I have been surprised by the lack of posts, forums or websites for what I consider is now rapidly becoming a classic boat. I know from the history section of the Oyster Brokerage that 35 of these 'live aboard' blue water cruising boats were built between 1986 and 1990 however very little else appears to be around apart from the usual “boats for sale” postings.
Assuming no complete “write offs” there are 34 of you out there who between you have a wealth of knowledge of this marque. I am about to refit mine for a circumnavigation and would welcome tapping into and sharing your experience. I am happy to host photos of layouts, refits, best ways to add a generator etc etc.
I have a number of burning questions but will see if I am just talking to myself first!

Hello to all oyster 406 family,
My husband and I are thinking of enjoying your family
...
you cud by right about it being on Scuttlebutt, but hey ho.

Have you details, photo, of "gorgeous widow"?
Hello to all oyster 406 family,
My husband and I are thinking of enjoying your family
But have a lot of questions..
But the most important one is to understand if the maintaining of an oyster boat is more expensive from other boat at the same year? (1988)
And we would like to know pls if somebody can share with us how much money per year or month we will need for maintenance ?
The boat we are thinking to buy is in a very good hands.
Thank in advance for the replies

If you do buy yourself an Oyster 406, please join the Owner's website/forum at www.oyster-owners.com However I would point out that it is a closed site and not the place where you could ask questions when thinking of buying a 406, but a great resource after you have committed to buy.

That is very short sighted of whoever is running the web site. The best source of information on any particular boat will always be an owners forum. If I was considering buying an Oyster, I would be less inclined to buy without specialist advice. Most owner/forum web sites have a large portion of their site available to all. I have a Westerly and they actively encourage potential buyers to check out the different classes available including the specification, original brochures, sail test reports, possible faults to watch for, plus which boats are for sale and finally access to ask questions on the forum after a simple free registration. The only things someone who is not a member of association does not get is access to technical improvements members have made and copies of the association magazine. I also know other owners association web sites act in a similar way like Moody, Southerly, Bavaria, etc.
So TudorSailor perhaps you should suggest that Oyster owners should be more welcoming on their web site.

Maybe I should add that when approached by a potential buyer of a particular model of Oyster, we offer to put the potential buyer in touch with a current owner of that model. In that way the discussions remain offline, and the email/forum traffic is kept to a minimum
