Just wanted to update this. Engineers have given me a decent breakdown with explanations of which bits they want to change and where the numbers come from. TBH - Paul it's more in line with your thoughts with a few extra bits added on and some spare hours in the estimate. Also, general thinking is that the upper gear replacement is there as 'the nuts' option in case I want to take it - not a 'you should do this' recommendation.

Conclusions after much debate is to change the cone and dog, and see where we get to.

So, thanks all for the input, generally happy with the latest plan!

I have a punctured tyre.
The nutz option. Replace tyre, wheel rim and for good measure the hub and bearings.
The sane option: 5 penny patch, gimme a bob for my time.

I'd be wary tbh. If that's what your engineer said. The Nutz. If he had said worse reasonable case scenario kudos, but Nutz? That's overselling

He didn’t say “the nuts”. I’m paraphrasing quite a long report....
