UKHO permanent/preliminary/temporary
1. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - Three reductions of depth just outside of the dredged area for the River Medway Thamesport Quays. Unlikely to hinder leisure craft and not where we ought to be!
2. ENGLAND - East Coast - Buoy. - This notice is UKHO confirmation of the Notice by Trinity House (No 15 in week 38) moving the NW Holm SHB in the Corton Road twixt Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft. At a move of 0.6nm, worth noting for those using that area.
3. ENGLAND - South East Coast - Foul. - A new FOUL almost due north of the Longnose PHB in Margate Road. An earlier FOUL had been added vide Notice 3278 in week 25 so the image shows both.
4. ENGLAND - South Coast - Light. - Change of light characteristics at the Light at the end of the Prince of Wales Pier, Western Harbour, Dover. The only change is the colour of the light from Green to White.
5. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depth. - One reduction of depth at the Long Sand Head. This was first brought to attention last week by Preliminary Notice 5049(P) and is now established ‘permanent’.
6. ENGLAND - East Coast - Mooring buoys. - This is the deletion of two large mooring buoys on the Shotley side of the River Stour, either side of the marina entrance. In my image a yellow special buoy is located close to the Ganges SHB. This was reported in Notice 879(T) in Week 5 but as far as I can see from the Harwich camera, the special buoy has now be removed.
7. ENGLAND - East Coast - Obstructions. Fouls. - Two FOULs in the vicinity of Blacktail Spit SHB, West Swin are now recorded as ‘OBSTN’ but at depths that will not hinder leisure craft.
8. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - Two small reductions of depth in the channel of Halfway Reach, River Thames. Unlikely to hinder leisure craft.
9. ENGLAND - South Coast - Lights. Light-beacons. - 7 new land based lights, one light moved, one light characteristics changed and one light deleted in the new works and existing jetties of the Western Harbour of Dover.
10. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - Three reductions of depth on the South Ship Head between the SW Shipwash and Walker buoys. These depths are not to be ignored.
11. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depth. - This Preliminary Notice repeats Notice 5032 from last week to include Chart 1975 which is planned to be reissued later this year. So no change from the earlier notice.

1. LOWESTOFT INNER HARBOUR – OULTON RAIL SWING BRIDGE - the use of the Oulton swing bridge (charted as Carlton swing bridge on BA1535 ) has been suspended due to repairs required. Therefore, no marine traffic can navigate the bridge if a bridge opening is required. Emergency works will be carried out on the Oulton Swing bridge by Network Rails contractor AmcoGiffen starting on Saturday 17th October and expected to complete Monday 2nd November.
Works will be carried out using a temporary floating access platform and the swing bridge will be swung out to allow access. Works are likely to cause a restricted waterway. (Illustrated in the Temporary List on the above quoted page)
2. LIMEHOUSE REACH - SOUTH DOCK MARINA - LOCK CLOSURE - due to essential maintenance works required to the lock gates, South Dock Marina lock will be closed to navigation from Monday 9th November 2020 until early February 2021. Vessels will not be able to enter or depart the marina during this time. (Illustrated)

THE SWALE – FERRY REACH - KINGSFERRY BRIDGE - Restrictions to navigation 24th & 25th October 2020 - television filming work is due to take place on and around the Kingsferry Bridge over the weekend of 24th and 25th October 2020. The filming will require navigational restrictions to be imposed on the river adjacent to and either side of the bridge for two specified periods. Whilst work is underway an exclusion zone will be established and policed by three GPS Marine vessels who will prevent any craft from entering the area. The GPS Vincia and crane barge RODMA will be stationed north of the bridge and the Felucca will be south side, both vessels will be assisted by a GPS Marine RIB, all craft will maintain a listening watch on VHF channel 74.
Network Rail will also be conducting engineering work on the bridge from 00:01 to 12:00 on Sunday 25th October.
Restrictions will be as follows:
24.10.2020 – 12:00 to 23:59 – No leisure craft access or transit through KFB, essential commercial vessel transits may be considered.
25.10.2020 – 00:01 to 23:59 – No leisure craft access or transit through KFB, essential commercial vessel transits may be considered.
Admiralty Chart Number 2572 refers. Further information may be obtained from Medway VTS on VHF Channel 74, call sign “Medway VTS” or telephone 0151 949 6148 or 0151 949 6650 or from Kingsferry Bridge on VHF Channel 10.
4. Harwich Harbour Works - • From the 13th October 2020 the plough dredger Bommel (length overall 24.90m) will start harbour works within the Haven for approximately 28 days.
• From the 19th October 2020 the survey vessel Titan Discovery will start survey operations within the Haven for approximately 7 days. Vessel movements can be obtained from Harwich VTS on VHF 71.
5. Sandwich Fairway Buoy - due to movements of the sand banks of the outer River Stour estuary the Fairway Buoy has been moved to a new position centred on: 51° 18.3 N 001° 24.0 E (As this is a significant move I have illustrated the new position)
6. Sandwich River Stour swing / toll bridge major overhaul - essential repairs are to take place to the south side abutment and will involve the use of access scaffolding. This scaffolding will lessen the navigable width as a consequence. A safety boat will be in attendance from which permission MUST be obtained to pass through - daylight hours ONLY. This instruction particularly applies to beamier vessels and most notably barge traffic. Works duration is expected to last for three weeks from the date of this NtM.
