1. ENGLAND - East Coast - Measuring instruments. Buoyage. - Last year two Temporary Notices were about the installation of seabed equipment and special buoys in and around the Blackwater. This Notice is re-installing the M4 special buoy east of the Eagle shoal. All about surveying in prep of the huge Chinese Nuclear Power Station I guess.
2. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - Four increases in depth in the Deep Water Channel in the Black Deep and Sunk Inner area. Unlikely to hinder leisure craft.
3. BELGIUM - NM Block. - A new UKHO block for Oostende Harbour for Chart 1873.
4. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - 4 reduced depths in the Lowestoft Approaches, 2 reduced depths in the Harbour and 4 reduced depths (not illustrated) in Lake Lothing.

1. SPORT & RECREATION ON THE THAMES - COVID-19 UPDATE – 5TH JANUARY 2021 - This notice supersedes and replaces Portwide Notice No.14 of 2020 - On Wednesday 6th January 2021 England enters a third period of national lockdown. The government has instructed that you must not leave or be outside of your home except for specific purposes. These purposes include exercise outdoors or visits to an outdoor public place. You should refer to the latest government guidelines prior to undertaking any sporting or recreational activity on the river and follow guidance from your NGB. It is for the individual to determine whether sport or recreation on the river is essential or justifiable under the current government guidelines.
Anyone considering recreational activity on the Thames must consider carefully the risks before going afloat. The Thames remains a challenging environment for recreational activity. Those taking to the water should be experienced, understand the Tideway Code and take all reasonable precautions to ensure their safety, including using the appropriate safety equipment. During this third period of national lockdown the Emergency Services remain available to assist in the case of an incident, but the significant reduction in other river traffic means that should someone come into difficulty, it is unlikely they will be seen and/or rescued by a passing vessel. It should also be noted that the PLA’s river patrol operations in the upper tidal Thames (Putney to Teddington Lock) are currently scaled down as resources are focused on the resilience of essential port operations.

3. Crouch - COVID 19 Restrictions - Recreational and Leisure Activities - INFORMATION - In light of the latest Tier 5 measures introduced by the UK Government on the 4th January 2021. The Crouch Harbour Authority are continuing to implement contingency planning measures to separate key workers who maintain our harbour patrols, pilot services and office staff. As a result of our resilience measures, we have a reduced capability in responding to leisure incidents and enquiries. Although the Harbour Office remains closed to the public it is open for business by email and telephone. We regret that there may be delays when responding to routine enquiries. We strongly recommend that all boat owners and crews adhere to the current guidelines National lockdown: Stay at Home
4. Crouch - Dredging Operations - Essex Marina will be undertaking annual Maintenance Dredging Operations in the approach to and within Essex Marina, Wallasea Island, Essex between approximately the 4th January 2021 through to the 31st March 2021. Dredging Operations will be carried out by Tug ASSASSIN who will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channels 16 and 11. PORT OF GREAT YARMOUTH - Bathymetric Survey Works - River Port - bathymetric survey activity will be undertaken within Great Yarmouth River Port on Monday 11th January and Tuesday 12th January 2021 from Survey Vessel INVESTIGATOR. The area to be surveyed comprises the stretch of river between Berths 12 and 15 as shown on the above quoted page. Due caution should be exercised when in transit past this location including observance to maintaining safe distance. SV INVESTIGATOR can be contacted on VHF Ch12. Mariners are reminded to maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 12 at all times whilst within the Port of Great Yarmouth and to advise ‘Yarmouth Radio’ of their intention to conduct any manoeuvre within the Port prior to doing so. 6. River Medway - Saltpan Reach - BP IOG. No1 Jetty - Dredging Operations - due to take place at BP Isle of Grain No.1 jetty, dredging will commence on or around 16/01/2021 and is expected to be complete on 23/01/2021. Operations will be focussed around the “berthing box” and will be carried out by the water injection dredger ‘Maasmond’. Maasmond’ will display the required signals for respective operations by day and night, all vessels are requested to pass with caution and minimise their wash. 7. THE SWALE – FERRY REACH - KINGSFERRY BRIDGE - due to scheduled maintenance work at Kingsferry Bridge between the above dates lifting restrictions will be imposed affecting all vessels. Monday 18/01/2021 - Friday 22/01/2021 - 4no. nights - 23:30 - 04:30. Engineering isolation periods will be from 23:30 until 04:30, however, bridge lifts will be available up to 23:59 and can resume from approx.. 04:00. It is hoped that the planned work will be completed during the first week but the following dates have also been requested as a contingency if required. If the second period of restrictions are not needed then a cancellation notice will be promulgated asap. Monday 25/01/2021 – Friday 29/01/2021 - 4no. nights - 23:30 - 03:00 (Contingency) Engineering isolation periods will be from 23:30 until 04:30, however, bridge lifts will be available up to 23:59 and can resume from approx.. 04:00. Maldon Harbour Improvement Commissioners - COVID 19: NATIONAL LOCKDOWN – HARBOUR USE - (LEISURE VESSELS) - On Monday 4th January, the Prime Minister announced a new national lockdown to counter the steep rise in coronavirus (Covid-19) infections in England. Through the British Ports Association, we have now heard that Government have confirmed that “boating is allowed as exercise [in England]. This covers all sailing boats/yachts as long as persons abide by the gathering limits, social distance rules and stay local rules”. The use of kayaks, canoes and paddleboards etc, is also deemed as exercise. More information about what is and isn't allowed is available on the government’s website. Further information is available on the RYA website and Sport England website. Obviously, the intention of the regulations is to reduce the spread of Coronavirus by ensuring that only necessary and permitted activities take place within the wider rules, including local travel. When making a decision on whether to go out on the water, please consider the risks and bear in mind that if you get into difficulty, you may be putting the lives of those come to your rescue at risk.
