Wonder what this year will bring? This seasons UK Carib guard ship is on her way. ?
May be a silly question, but what are they doing there?RFA Wave Knight is the ship. Will be joining HMS Medway that's on long term deployment to the Windies.
Primarily providing defense for British Overseas Territories in the region as well as good PR and ant-drug smuggling enforcement.May be a silly question, but what are they doing there?
If anyone is interested the link below explains the strategy in more detail, written at the time of Dorian.
Very interesting analysis of the logistics of disaster relief, and the role the RFA ships can play with regard to both practical and political considerations.
Hurricane Dorian - what can the UK do to help the Bahamas?

For the sake of the people of the WIndies, I hope that's what this deployment will be. The crew will sober up quickly enough if they're needed. If it’s anything like my deployment there we primarily got pissed up on rum in warm, sunny places For 7 months.

So how much do these rich tax havens like Bahamas contribute to the Navy budget? (Or indeed does Jersey for its gunboat cover?)
Why ? The projection of soft power is an integral part of defence. However, if it comes from the RN's defence budget that would be unjust.
