I have a fixed XM vhf dsc radio which I would like to use on another vessel. How can I clear the MMSI registration from the existing radio so I can load it with a new MMSI number? I have been told to return the set to the manufacturer but as XM has been swallowed by Plastimo what else can I do ?

I believe the XM is a rebadged Huricane A2E/ RadioOcean 4500

in which case the procedure is:
Turn radio off.
Hold down [16] and [watch] while turning radio on.
Enter 4500 as a pin (think thats done by rotating the channel selector and pressing it in to accept)
You should then get an option to reset MMSI. Push channel button to accept then confirm...

Switch radio back off and on.

If it is a rebadged RO4500, then these are my notes which worked a few years ago and also work for the RO4800

Clear MMSI.
  • Hold “16” & “WATCH” while turning the VHF ON.
  • Enter code “4500” or “1688” with the channel button.
  • Choose “CLEAR MMSI”.
  • Confirm with “CHANNEL” button.
  • Confirmation is displayed.
  • Turn VHF off.
