Can anyone help , I'm having issues with the engine , it starts and runs well , revs clean and freely until its under load , when under load will only rev to 1100 rpm with an amount of black smoke , new turbo has been fitted which has been checked and is fine , waste gate valve has been removed ,refurbished and refitted all good , injectors seem good, i'm now looking at the ECM , does anyone have a diagnostic tool or could point me in the direction of someone that could help , boat is in Windermere

Could be the MAP sensor, if you can get a scan tool and read off the live data and see what air temp and boost it is reading from the MAP sensor. They have a habit of telling lies which affects performance, the ECU rarely is a problem on these engines, its always something external.

The Map sensor was going to be my next item , I can't get a scan tool at the moment, I am debating if I should simply just replace the sensor ( assuming its a simple as just fitting a new one ) and see if that does the trick , started the engine today which was the first time in eight weeks , fired immediately and ran well , the issue is only under load

Its held on with two 8 mm bolts halfway along the intercooler, plug and play. I love these engines they always start first time.

Ordered a new MAP sensor today , coming from VM in Italy via a specialist in Chesterfield , 7 to 10 days delivery , took the engine number from the block adjacent the lift pump to get the correct component , I didn't know this is where the correct id was until today

, I can't get a scan tool at the moment,

If its 1993 - 2010 ish the scan tool is basic
You can use a home made Blink tester with an LED and 9 v battery
count the blinks and check the codes

Google Blink tester for mercruiser or (VM 706LX depending on your engine)
