Latest Sardinia news..

We must make an effort and enter into the spirit of the norm: avoid travel to the whole territory as much as possible, without attempting to violate the provisions. We need to get out as little as possible and try to change our habits. "So the prefect of Cagliari, Bruno Corda, commenting to ANSA on the new measures launched by the government to counter the spread of the coronavirus." To move between the various municipalities you must fill in , or the self-certification that motivates the move will be completed directly by the police.

Be careful not to provide false statements - warns the prefect - In the event that it turns out to be false, you risk two crimes: the violation of article 650 of the penal code, that is, not having complied with an order from the authority, and that linked precisely to the false declaration ". You can move for work, health or necessity reasons, for example for shopping, but always with self-certification in your pocket." The philosophy of the standard is not of a sanctioning type but of collaboration - stresses Corda - one must try to change one's habits and interpret the norm restrictively so that this sacrifice is temporary in nature. Crowds must be avoided, and this has not been done last week, reducing expenses also for shopping by buying something more, but without excess: there are no supply problems, there is no reason to do it " , clarifies the prefect.

RETROACTIVE QUARANTINE - The President of the Sardinia Region Christian Solinas tightens the requirements of the ordinance that provided for the obligation to isolate for the next fourteen days for people arriving from the red areas of northern Italy. The new provision imposes isolation also on those who arrived on the island in the fourteen days preceding the issue. The tightening - the Region said in a note - was decided by the governor "having taken note of the numerous transfers that took place from the regions of the peninsula, in some cases from areas at risk, generally in seaside houses near the coastal municipalities of Sardinia".

The recipients must also fill in a form with the general information and the declaration on compliance with all the provisions already indicated in the previous ordinance. But there is more: to implement these provisions, airlines and ships, as well as airport management companies, will have to make the names and contact details of passengers transported since 24 February available to the Region. Generality that will be included in a special regional database used exclusively for the monitoring actions of the subjects involved in the fourteen days of isolation, in collaboration with the police.

New rules also for the crew of ships and planes and for drivers of the shuttle services: they must not leave the structures where they stayed until the restart, avoiding any contact during their stay on the island. The drivers of the shuttles that transfer the crews must be equipped with personal protective equipment such as masks. The ordinance is valid until April 3. "With the measure - said Solinas - we obtain the result of being able to isolate the possible positive subjects in their homes and to carry out all the necessary controls on them".

NO OUTBREAK IN THE ISLAND, IMPORTED VIRUS - At present there are no native coronavirus outbreaks in Sardinia. He wanted to underline the councilor of Health Mario Nieddu taking stock of the emergency on the island. "We have been able to reconstruct the chain of contagion in all 19 cases of positivity and we are today confident of the derivation from the areas of Northern Italy," he explained. Precisely to the need to maintain this feature that allows good reaction and intervention capabilities of the regional machine, the repeated request to insert the closure of air and maritime traffic entering the island for 20 days is linked to the repeated request of the government. "The government has not accepted and has pointed out to us that this is an excessive measure, that Sardinia is not yet an orange zone. And I made it clear that we would not want to become one", reconstructed Nieddu announcing that Minister Boccia still has assured that "the request would be reviewed and that they would let us know".

HUNDREDS IN ISOLATION - Hundreds of people are quarantined in Sardinia. The data was made known by the Councilor of Health Mario Nieddu. "With every infection - he explained - all referable contacts go into quarantine". Remember the difference between fiduciary isolation and supervised quarantine. In the latter case, the crisis unit is activated "through the service of the prevention department to call once or twice a day to find out what the health conditions are". Obviously, patients follow one

That's very sobering and very scary and presumably a similar scenario to the one they had in China that prompted them to build new facilities with thousands of extra beds so quickly...

In Sardinia they have put up tents outside a hospital in the north as a starting point.

I see from Independent Newspaper that UK citizens are being advised to leave Italy. As a Londoner I feel safer in a city (Cagliari) of 500,000 which is basically deserted compared to a few days ago.

Cagliari Mayor has just released a statement saying:

(ANSA) - CAGLIARI, MARCH 11 - "We close everything for fifteen days". It is the appeal to the government contained in a video message launched by the mayor of Cagliari Paolo Truzzu, in which he says he is still satisfied with the response of citizens to the prescriptions imposed to contain contagion from coronavirus.
"But do not organize birthday parties in the parks and do not go out except for the reasons indicated by the government," warns the first citizen. "He then raises." Now we need a further effort: we close everything and leave only the exercises open for necessities primary ". Many have already testified with photos posted on social images of a city closed due to coronavirus emergency. An example for everyone: Piazza Yenne, which has always been a meeting place for coffee, pizza or ice cream, at 6.30 pm was already deserted.

Hundreds of people are monitored by police, carabinieri, municipal police throughout Sardinia to verify compliance with the legislation that came into force to curb the spread of coronavirus. Bars, restaurants and clubs were also inspected to ascertain compliance with the distances between patrons and closing times.
The agents of the Cagliari Police Headquarters, in particular, checked 87 people, verifying, as expected, the self-certifications and therefore the valid reasons provided by the citizens for leaving the house. One was reported: he was stopped on board a van that circulated for no justified reason. "Even the visible presence of the patrols must serve the slogan stay at home - explain by the police headquarters in the capital - In the event of a halt, the self-certification form is verified together with an identity document.
After the go-ahead, the Police Forces will proceed to the subsequent verification of the declarations made, in compliance with the current directives expressed in the Dpcm of 9 March 2020. "Dozens of checks also in Nuoro. Patrols of the Flying and Traffic Police have checked numerous public exercises and people in transit along city and provincial streets, acquiring self-certifications No irregularities have been reported at the moment.

Do you mean also people living aboard? That wouldn't make sense.
Not to mention that if they should do the same in Cagliari, I would have nowhere else to go, at the moment!
