Leather on my oars is looking a little worn and dry.

What to feed it with?

Sometimes on oars I see rings of leather, maybe 1/2" bigger radius than the oar, used a stop, so the oar can't slip out through the rowlock, if I wanted to do that, start with a strip of leather, wind it round, but how to secure it? Copper nails? Bronze screws?

I agree with nailing for the collar but as regards feeding the leather, I use dubbin which is also useful for greasing the rowlocks.
