OK I have decided I am going to to do Jc 2010 or 2012. so what is the ideal boat? I have extensive experience in big boat racing but always fully crewed. Is a mini transat a good option. Any thoughts on ideal rig? (just can't see efficiency of junk rig)
And finally any advice on most perplexing question; explaining to wife that I'm doing it!

Lot of variables you haven't mentioned: Budget? Can you work on the boat yourself? Do you want to win? or just get there? Are you brave?

For my part I believe that any fool can be uncomfortable - Get a multihull.
I came first in the 'comfortable lounge' competition.
Mind you, it wasn't all luxury. For much of JAC08 I couldn't get the deep fat fryer to work.

But hey! If it was easy it wouldn't be worth doing!

On point 2 your wife gets a glamorous sailing holiday in the Azores / States. Start looking at prices of charter holidays to begin the job of convincing her.

Of course wives tend to prefer multihulls. They can have some space away from the husband.

Well done for making the decision. I still don't know if I'm going.
