to the battens of an FB sail. Zero? A couple of inches in a 40 inch batter and pro rata?

Its a fairly basic system in my new boat. The battens arent tapered for example. But there is a system for pre tensioning them.

For cruising? Tension them a bit and forget about it... If they aren't easily popping through on the tacks slacken them off a bit until they do.

For racing, slack them off for less depth in stronger winds, wind a bit more on in the light to give the sail a bit more depth.

Slight tension. No need to over tension. No need to tension for different wind strengths because the mast bend, sail trim, control tension etc. will sort that. The batten is there to hold the roach not make the shape in the sail.. In cruising sails it really helps to assist sail drop in a lazy jack system
