................can an Irish flagged yacht remain in the UK?

The vessel was built in 1973 so VAT is not an issue ( I believe)

Does the "Common Travel Area" permit Irish boats to reside in the UK

Or another way of putting this question might be "are there any downsides to reflagging my boat?" (apart from the difficulty and expense of doing so)

Thanks

You could be better waiting until Nicola takes us back into Europe. As I understand it having suitable "proof" that your boat was present wherever you wanted it to be on 31/12/2020 is all that is needed. Just don't produce the wrong bit of photoshopped "evidence" to the wrong people.

Not enough info? Where was your boat on 31/12/20 ?

VAT rules still apply to a 1973 boat. It is just that it will have been deemed EU VAT paid if in EU at end of 1992 (or some date thereabouts). Crossing between UK and EU you will need to advise Yachtline / HMRC regarding the VAT position.

If was in UK on 31/12/20 I believe that it will have UK VAT status and can stay for as long as wants. Boat flag should not make any differenc.
Owners place of residence (eg UK vs Ireland/EU) would in some circumstances when crossing border.

But all just what I have heard. Speak to an expert if want precise info.
