That's more to the point. Queensway is only open half the day and has little space plus Marina Bay has been .....Butchered.

Last couple of times down that way, we found it easier to use Alcaidesa and bike across to Gib. Had noisy times in Marina Bay, one year they were pile driving for the casino, next year they had RAF Tornados based there, taking off in pairs on reheat was literally painful noise.

It has always been agreed that Gibraltar can decide Gibraltar’s future so possibly they will demand a relationship similar to Northern Ireland.

Sounds like a good position to be in. Don't even need a section 30. Where do we sign up?

Why would they?

Being part of Schengen does not prevent Gibraltar having bilateral arrangements of its own nor does it affect its status as a British Overseas Territory
i would guess they would need a residents card for trips over the border or are military personelle automatically exempt

Neither are several other members of Schengen - Norway and Switzerland spring to mind.
Although this arrangement is awkward for UK yachties, it seems a pragmatic solution for the Gibraltar residents.
Now, what might happen with the Channel Islands...
Or (tongue in cheek) Isle of Wight?
Don't forget I.o.M.

I know that Greece, Italy and Spain get illegal boat people from N Africa but does Gibraltar as never heard of any?
Because they dont mess about, if any enter, they get caught then are sent back to where they came from. Was walking to the border from Alcaidesa one day, some blokes came out of the water, shot across the road and disappeared in to the high rise blocks across the road from the border. I pointed them out to a couple of Spanish cops, they shot off after them. The point is they preffered to come ashore in Spain rather than Gib!

so anybody from the eu can go and live and work in gib?

Schengen is a Common Visa Treaty with no internal borders between signatories. It doesn't necesarrily mean Gib is signing up to Freedom of Movement (i.e. the right to work and reside)

I don't recall any border control between any other contiguous Schengen states so I doubt that there will be a check of any sort. Isn't that the point of Schengen? I'm not familiar with Gibraltar but I imagine whatever border control there is at present (with Spain) will be dismantled as the real border will now be on entry by air (or sea). Gibraltar may not remain in the EU but is now politically aligned with Europe rather than UK. Do they rely on the UK financially? If not I can see them opting for independence in the near future.
There were border controls between Germany and Switzerand north and south of Lake Constance a few years ago.

As there were between France and Switzerland - but these were customs posts checking for smuggling of goods (cheaper food and drink from France) and not limiting Freedom of Movement of people in any way.

That's what being in Schengen means, yes
But Schengen is about freedom of movement across EU frontiers and zero trade controls -

If you wanted to work in Spain or France for example you needed to be resident and obtain a residents permit, pay income tax on WW income. You could not last year stay in Gibraltar for more than 6 months without becoming a resident and taking on all the financial responsibilities that go with that.... Of course you could not get employment (with a 'proper' company) unless you had a resident document...
