Well some folk on here know what i am like with daft projects etc etc, daft ideas etc etc. Time has come to sell all my other boats and fix on one and this is it.

Yes i was meant to be going away from these kind of boats and play with a Loftus Bennet i have here but then a mate sent me a link for this for sale and as soon a si seen it i knew it was mine. I have been trying to find one for a good while but gave up.

It will in the new year i think by time i can tow it home a si have a bit of sorting out to do with other boats etc to make space and give T some garden back.

It is running twin AQ130s on 270 Volvo outdrives, all original aswell, One massive bonus is the trailer is a cracker its on and has had new bearings and brakes replaced on lay up and all still working fine. Although to double check i will be going down again after lockdown here to remove the wheels and check them over. looked good but there are two sides to a tyre lol.

Looking forward to faffing with these two.

You will see that the SB engine has wrong carbs fitted, i was so greatfull when i was looking over it and the seller said he actaully bought these when at a boat jumble some time ago. on a manifold aswell :) love to save money as they dont come cheap.

Things i know that needs doing but for the running gear is the main bulkhead has gone at the bottom so that will be all coming out aswell as the other bulkheads up front, they have slight damp and delamination, i mite aswll do a proper job hey.

And the cabin sole, well feels solid but not easy to investigate that on these boats it is foam filled. but if needs must it will be but out and replaced with new.

Hope you all had a great Christmas :)

So i sold all my boats and down to the one now.. And it is infact a MK2 not MK1 Fury built 1975.
I dragged it home a few days ago with the new tow car which was great. I wasnt going to get a tow car untill further into January maybe February but as folk were saying this and that about the weight of the boat i decided to get one now. I stopped at a weigh bridge on the way home on the 250 odd mile treck home and it turned out the boat on a 680kg trailer weighed in at 2690kg, so not bad for the size boat, that is with no batteries or fuel etc on board.

I have been pondering to what to do with it as in refurb. I was going to get the boat running and sort a few electric out and basic needed electronics then bring it home and refurb over winter bit by bit.

But Nah doing it all in one go.

Dont it look diddy there lol.

The day after i got it in the pound ready for a wee fettle :)

20201224_135315.jpg

I made a walk around video of it today.

I started today to remove the front cabin windows but it needs two people, so then went onto the V berth bulkhead but arms give in on me.
I will be resealing all deck fittings and rails etc to strt to get it water tight as they do leak a lot. then windows and then rebuild bow to stern.

SOOooooo much to do and looking forward to an easy project for a change. Not so much getting help now a sits not me but if i want this done its a must.

I am doing a bit of a refit on our new to us Hardy but whilst I have plenty to do, as a project it pales into insignificance compared to what you take on. I look forward to following progress with interest!

impressed W!
looks good, layout is interesting and should be v. usable for the two of you (like the slide over the galley :) )
few Qs:

17:10, wtf is this strip that looks like its glued over the crease of the superstructure? cannot be original is it?

what's going on with the transom? why is this square plate (ali, ss?) bolted there?

how are you going to restore the window frames? Seems to me one of the most difficult things in this project!

hope you choose lighter colours for the bulkheads (or line them!)

looking forward to the instalments coming!

cheers

Hi V

Glad you approve kida :)

Now that strip. its PVC trim, there is one for the other side aswell but not fitted. Its stuck down hard and will need a good going at to remove it. I have had a look inside but nothing to show. I am thinking cable covering or something. I will investigate further though as its making amess of the boat and i want it gone.

Now then that transom plate. I think its aluminium. At the minute its part or a transom repair. It has been done well but not properly or thery wouldnt of plated it if it a repair. It has been donw a while ago i reckon, has been resined over aswell.

On the inside you can see where it has been sort of done. Original gussets kept inplace.

20201228-095712.jpg

Still not the best repair IMO for this kind f boat.

I dont know why but for a soggy back end has been replaced some time. The repair is solid from i have found up to now. I think they have cut out the bad and added new and then instead of laminating over the repair on the outside they have plated it. or done both to save doing a good finish.

That will be found out once the drives are off and i remove the plate to see behind as to what has been done.

The windows i am looking forward to doing,

They are trimmed on the inside with a hardwood frame that the all frames bolt to. I hope i can save the curved section as save me steaming more frames up.
I think its just a matter as other windows i have done, strip back clean reseal then stick um back in,

Only pain is if the screws on the frame brackets are seized. aslong as i can get the screws out be reat, i can make new brackets.

Soo full steam ahead :)

Ok i think i have decided first steps on this project.

I need the engines out first, then to lift the boat off the trailer. I built this gantry last year for something and as it goes its about 50mm to narrow to get over the stern of the boat. I cant expect anything less hey.

133830053-10225256857873336-2670569846316667584-o.jpg

So plan, widen it by 600mm this will give enough room to also lift the boat after engines are out. I say lift as in stern first and chock and prop then the 3/4 way down to the bow. and same as

A rough sketch to give an idea.

Hey Wayne, happy New year and happy new project. Looking forward to following along on your latest adventure. I can't really give any advise but I would strongly suggest that you break it down into a number of smaller manageable jobs. Like eating an elephant, one bite at a time.
Anyway, seasons greetings to you and your long suffering lady.

Wayne, I’ve lost track of your various project boats, did you completely finish them? I seem to remember seeing your first one in the water, did you get to use the next one?
This looks to be a worthwhile restoration, a classic Fairline that will be happy on the sea. If you get your skates on it could be ready for the summer, is that your plan?
Have you still got the Zodiac, or has that gone too?

Hi John.

near lost track myself. A few months ago health started to go down hill so i sold up all my boat even the good last rebuild i did, the Buckingham. I am struggling to do much now with bigger projects. so was selling up to keep the fishing boat and get a motorhome to drag it about.

So sold up all to get a motorhome and stopped looking at boats even as i get tempted lol. my mate though found the boat i have here and he knew i wanted one for a long time. I told him dont send me pics....well as you can see he did so i bought it :)

Oh yes still have the Zodiac, thats going nowhere, could be the tender for the Fury.

Plan was to get it a lot of it done for summer so its usuable then bring home winter to refurb it , but decided to do it all in one go now.

Just going to see how it goes, need help now so that will hold thing up.

All best kida ;)
