I read with great intrest, the article "Practicle Queen" (S.M September 04). However, it would appear that the writer has made and error in paragraph three (3).
He states that "No Cunard vessel ever had a dummy funnel"!
I would like to draw to his attention that the cargo sister ships of the 1950's "ANDRIA & ALSATIA" did in fact have two funnels with the forward one being part of the bridge and the captains cabin, therefore a dummy.
To confirm this, S.M. December 2003 actually shows "ANDRIA" with a brief notification.
No doubt some of your readers will have already picked up on this but as we in Australia are invariably a month to six weeks behind receiving our monthly issue, i could be "to late".
