O
How long ago did your French friends arrive here? And the other boats?
Re a lockdown for boats in Carlisle Bay, are they literally not allowed to go ashore at all?
Only one yacht (Gyp Seas) is showing up on Marine Traffic in Carlisle Bay - she has been here a while.
The French yacht Pitou One II sailed from Carlisle Bay up to the anchorage off Port St Charles yesterday.
There is also an Aussie yacht called 'The Mob' anchored off PSC.
And there are two sizeable motor yachts moored on the breakwater of PSC - they have both been here a while.

Changing tack, are yourselves still planning on returning to Europe soon?
our french friends have been there about a month. First off Port St Charles then off Carlisle Bay. Not sure how many boats but our friend made 14 masks for all those at anchor. They get to go ashore twice a week for food supplies but they have been getting food delivered

We arrived Horta in the Azores on Sunday. 19 days from Carriacou. Two days sailing up the lee of the island chain then popped out between Antigua and Guadeloupe and headed out in to the Atlantic. Great conditions for for first week. F3 mainly beam reaching then a few days of unpleasant weather. Two days of beating in to 20/25 knots and a couple of days with running in 30/35kts. Cant complain about the trip. The next leg will be to Cork but weather looks iffy. Strong NE winds. So wind on the nose. Rule here is 48hrs stay unless you have repairs. We have been dreaming up repairs?

Congratulations! Sounds like a good trip full of the changes, worries and happiness that goes with that passage!!

A friend passed through Horta 2weeks ago. She stayed 48 hours too...weather.... and is now quarantined in Majorca. Big boat.

Got 3 others we know on route, one just left Antigua. Ir must feel good to be well ahead of them.

When getting asked to move off and looking for an excuse to stay if not in the way of anyone, just pull out the engine stop handle and put a peg on it. When asked to move, engine will fail to start and buy you time!

Good luck with the run back to UK.

Rumour has it that there are a fair few boats that are returning from the Caribbean to Europe.

Anybody got any idea how many are making the trip and where are they going❓

Whatever, very best of luck to all making these trips in these very uncertain times✅

We have been here in Horta since Sunday. There have been about 10 boats a day arriving. The Peter cafe guys who are doing a great service here delivering provisions say that its very quiet. In May last year they had 40 boats arriving per day on average

Was in Horta 2 years ago, mid May and it was quiet. Last year was there mid June and it was quite busy. This year I should have been about a week into the trip across. Mebbe next year!

Many, many boats on passage now, fair winds to them all!

Grenada is opening up to yachts.

Look at the Government Information Service of Grenada service. They have a Facebook page.
Yep, they are creating quarantine zones where you anchor for two weeks before being allowed off the boat. Still a problem if you want to get home aś there are no routine flights.

You can get a charter (with others to lower the cost) to Barbados or Antigua.

British Airways are doing some flights, including repatriation.

Yep, we have heard of people sorting out charter flights to get to islands with flights out of the Caribbean. It not a cheap solution.

I have a friend with a boat in St Lucia Who tells me that Peters & May are hoping to run an additional shipping (latter part of June) from St Lucia to Southampton which may help out some who’re trying to get their boats back to Europe. At the moment, they need another 8 boats to make it viable.

Congrats on a good passage Geem - 19 days from Carriacou is pretty good going!
If you are still there, and can talk to other boats, please say hello to my pal Dave on Puddytat - he took 26 days (I think) singlehanded from St Helena on a 40' Catana cat.

This Spleithoff vessel 'Spuigracht' arrived here a few days ago with a lot of parts for a new power station here.

(I had a little survey job over the past few days tallying and inspecting everything that came off for any damages, but all in good order).
She finished discharging her cargo this evening, and loaded a Princess 50' motor yacht to take back to Southampton (later on), and is now sailing to Martinique to pick up some more yachts.
She will take a while to get to Southampton though, as she then visits St Thomas and Fort Lauderdale, and then I think she goes up to Newport Rhode Island (loading more boats along the way) before crossing the Atlantic.

Hi, we have seen Puddycat. Anchored not far from us. Would be great to speak to Dave but cant be done in person! We arent allowed off the boat. Our self imposed Atlantic quarantine isnt enough for the Portuguese authorities. They think we all have the plague and make us stay on our boats. We cant even visit other yachts in the anchorage. All this whilst the locals dinghy sail, water ski, fish, swim in the harbour and lead a perfectly normal life. We asked the marine police why we were not allowed to visit other yachts. They said the locals wouldnt like it! FFS! Who gives as sh1t what they like! We have not got covid 19 and we have been confined to out boats for weeks. They simply do not care about us sailors.

Well you could say its their Island and its no surprise that they put themselves first.

How do you get your victuals sorted?
Peter Sport guys are delivering food for all the boats here. Doing a fantastic job.
The crazy thing is that 14 days quarantine is enough for most authorities everywhere in the world. We have all done at least 14 days. The authorities here know this but they simply dont care. We now have a situation where the rules have specifically changed for the Azores. We are now allowed to get a a COVID 19 test from Monday. Wait for results and when its negative we get to go ashore. The police here say it doesnt apply to us!! We have read it and it specifically applies to us but the police aren’t interested!!

Bet you must be keen on getting going? Are you waiting for that rather nasty bit to blow through around Tuesday?

Good to hear about Peter Sport. Not my favourite restaurant but obviously helping now. Will pass that on. (y)

Shame about the Police attitude. They must be sweaty about it. Ive always found them very helpful, normally and on some of the other islands too.

Anyway, good luck when you do get gone.

We are heading for Cork next. Although none of the normal channels are available to us to get back to the Uk with dogs the
British authorities are not interested in out plight. They wont allow us to sail back to the UK with dogs. So, we sail to Cork where they will allow us to arrive with dogs and clear them in. We can then sail on to the UK with no further clearance issues.
We are waiting for that nasty low off Ireland and the High to our West to sort themselves out. Hopefully next weekend we should get a good window for Ireland
