I had no superstition about renaming my boat - as far as I could find out it was named after a mythical Thai warrior, or a couple called Arthur and Christina, or a type of Mazda car. None of which appealled!

Today, I lashed out over <u>£300</u> on a tiller pilot for my pride and joy. I hope it's worth the money. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I've never had one before but I was talking to a chap at our club last weekend from Portishead who swears by it. His boat was very yellow and called "Gold..." something or other. Anyway, it's beans on toast for us 'til next payday.

The fella couldn't have been more helpful to be fair. Marine Scene in Cardiff were out of stock. They rang me to tell me after I wrote on this forum. Going to try my luck with Force 4 at Bristol. Apparently Raymarine have a problem supplying.

If you were, or the boat was, I was beside you in Eilidh, Halcyon 27.
Moved on now to a Sadler 32.

Yes that was Lizzy D which was where I saw her. My girl Bev and I decided to go to Swansea for a snoop around the marina as that day's sailing trip on my old Leisure 20 had to be cancelled due to the weather. Anyway, we sauntered past Dickies Boat Sales office and saw her for sale. Bev said that she'd noticed the boat in the yard and we went for a look. It was love at first sight, and with the fidelity levels of a drug-fuelled rockstar, I ditched my Leisure 20 for Lizzy D.
Lizzy D is now back in the water and is living at her new berth in Cardiff Yacht Club. I hadn't heard of a Nantucket CLipper before and when I tied her to her new berth, there was one right opposite us!!! My research tells me that only 100 were made. Mine is no.51.
Sorry to have bored you with my passion. I'd better stop writing incase Bev gets jealous!!!

Yes, it was the one and the same!Years later in 1989, I moved to South Wales and worked for a few years in Cardiff, where the same John Bowker had previously moved to become the Chief Fire Officer, and on retirement, moved to the South coast.
Looking on your web site, I saw another Nantucket Clipper which is kept at Hayling Island / Brighton. The owner? John Bowker. I bet you a pint it's the same one!!

I did live in Cardiff for 3 years in early 80's but I did not work for the firebrigade and I am a few years away from retiring.
It is however good to know that there is another John out there who has to spell his surname every time he gives it.

Has anyone decided on a name yet at all for this collective of people? I for one wouldnt mind too much being in it, but as yet can only offer my services in the form of forums and webhosting. I already do have a forums up and running, but didnt want to disseminate the URL until a name had been decided and also.......... if its worth the trouble? i.e would people use it?
