Fascinating account of a 6 year pre war voyage by a Leigh on Sea lad who got bored of his banking job in London and set off on a 24 footer across the Atlantic with his mate. Ends up after various adventures in the Caribbean, North America pacific and Indian oceans getting caught up in the Japanese invasion of China, where a lucky gift of a parrot to the emperor a yar or so before gets him a get out of jail free card and a seat on a train with jap troops to Russia, then a gruelling overland train journey through communist russia and nazi germany before arriving home. Turns out he was the guy who later on was instrumental in getting ddt banned in the states. Highly recommended.

That sounds very interesting - until you try and buy a copy and see the price! On Amazon, on used hardback at £127 and on used paperback at £72. The best I could find is an old hardback copy (price 2/6d on the cover) on EBay for £19.95.
