A yacht at anchor with no visible anchor chain or bow roller (or even anchor when sailing!).

This yacht parked next to me yesterday afternoon and I had a feeling something was strange. This morning I took two photos... no anchor chain! There is swirl on starboard bow that must be the workings of electric gizmo under water line. Tried googling... Anyone know how this anchor set up works?

You have managed to reinvent the which anchor question

But do I see a ball hoisted?

Biggish boat have one of the crew on anchor watch as they probably won’t be able to sleep anyway but then you won’t hear the thruster for the Gen set

Seems a case of if I can afford it why not ?

And some years down the line when the technology fail I will have a new bigger better boat and it’s someone else’s problem

Bottom line? I really cant envision a vessel without an anchor Etc

I did try and post beautiful high resolution (JPEG) but the site would not let me so I had to email pics to phone and take a screenshot and then post.

Dynamic Positioning was my first thought - although on this relatively small yacht, it seems unlikely, I've only read about it on big commercial set-ups.

Also a shocking, needless waste of energy if it's this yacht's primary 'anchoring' solution.

Were there not some 'Wally' yachts where the anchor emerged from the bow under water?

Not sure if these are fitted on Wally yachts, but certainly some superyachts do fit underwater anchor doors, to enhance the fashionable super uncluttered look. Generally goes with the swimming pool under the foredeck, which also acts as hidden Speedboat storage.
Assume when anchor comes up jammed with weed some junior crew member is thrown overboard with goggles and fins to clear it.

I anchored my mate's RIB by the towing eye once. The rode was entirely underwater (at least with me on the bow trying to weigh anchor). Top tip, carry a boathook if it's February...

Gibian is in fact a Wally. When raising anchor a large foredeck hatch was opened and two crew stood on the bow, port and starboard, and looked over the edge into the sea. Everything seemed good and they slipped away. Never did see their anchor or any chain. She is 30m long.
