The latest notice to mariners dropped into my inbox this morning, Rather sad I thought I rather liked seeing the Channel Light Vessel.

Perhaps we should all head out and say our goodbyes.

Mariners are advised that the transmitted message 21 will be displayed as

Is that the one which is read out on the Shipping Forecast, as a weather station, 'Channel Light Vessel Automatic'? Hopefully the name will stay the same as a reminder of past times.

Pre war lightship records were bombed out of existence in ww2 so from 1946 LV1 was built.
Nearly all of them up to LV21 are still being used for things like museums, restaraunts etc, and a few have even gone abroad.
