I came accross these incredible scenes from the French inland waterways. A large number of le boat hire boats have been washed away by floodwaters from recent storms. They have been washed downstream over weirs etc with some sunk unfortunately. Terrible scenes. Its a bit surreal as I would be used to similar (if not the same - le boat transfer them regularly) boats on the Shannon in Ireland.

Crue du Lot : 21 bateaux de plaisance à la dérive

Edit: In english, river seems to be the Lot.

Shocking .
People wonder why insurance premiums are increased while boat use has declined due to covid.
Boats are probably at greatest risk of loss or damage when moored and unattended.

I suppose but it looks like the entire pontoon broke away. My guess is that the boats seperated after that. Article says only 4 boats made it....

There were pictures on the web of about 30+ boats moored 4 abreast and still made fast to pontoons drifting down river like a giant raft.
