I am looking for a car for my son to learn to drive in.

Anything considered but ideal would be a small engined low mileage nice VW Polo.

If anyone has anything suitable, please get I touch.

Many thanks

We sold my wife's Honda Jazz to my granddaughter a year ago - the insurance was much cheaper than her previous car, a Citroen Saxo, even though it had a larger engine(1.4l versus 1.0l). She was delighted,, especially as it had all the goodies and they all worked!

It was 10 yrs old - my wife was offered £500 in part exchange on a 3yr old Jazz Hybrid - so we offered it to granddaughter at the same price. The first time she drove it, with us on board, we nearly went through the windscreen when she braked, the brakes worked - unlike the Saxo which scared the s*** out of me when I drove it as the brakes were useless!

We have just sold a Citroen C1 which I bought New for my daughter in 2010, Specifically for the Low Insurance as she was below 20. It had done 87,000 miles when we sold it. The depreciation over the 10 years has been £10 a week. The only thing we had to pay for were 1 battery, 2 sets of tyres, set of pads, a catalytic converter (cheap non standard) . I would definitely recommend one. Mind you I used to take the pith out of it by saying it had a Briggs & Stratton Lawn Mower Engine in it. Whereas it has the excellent Toyota engine. After 10 years, no rust anywhere.

Saw your post "Wanted: 1st Car wanted for my Son".....

If your son is reasonably hard working that seems like a very fair swap to me.
You must know you will be down on the swap.
After all, surely just buying a 1st car would have cost you a tiny fraction of what your son has cost you over the years.
At least that's the view I took.
Anyway, if you wish to send me details of your son I will return details of the 1st car I offer in exchange.
All the best.

If it is just so you can take him out and practice before he passes his test then you can buy specialist learner insurance on your own car for a very reasonable rate which is in his name so no threat to your own insurance.
