it this not a ZF or Hurth reverse gear painted volvo Green ?
Not that big a job to remove yourself if you wanted to save a little money
Took me about 90 mins to take out a MS4B and 60 mins to refit, singled handed.
This would give a wider choice of repairers , which might mean a quicker turnround.

Why not try a vehicle gear box specialist?

Probably got more experience in gear box work than a marine fitter.

Removed my gearbox and dropped into the auto gearbox repair outfit next door to my workshop, for quick look purely to diagnose what had failed.
They had it in bits in about 15 mins to discover a snapped drive shaft.
General amusement as to how basic and simple the box was.
Odered new shaft + gaskets etc from Volspec. Arrived in 48 hours, shaft fitted that morning.
Only minor problem, resealing water pipes to internal cooling matrix.
Box refitted in boat that afternoon, painted a nice shade of green, then coat of white paint in bilge to cover green drips and round to the Thames the following morning :) :):).
The water pump pressure microswitch failed en route. :( Fortunately had spare microswitch aboard.

Often non marine options are cheaper/better.
We had a damaged hydraulic hose once and we were told it had to be replaced and not repaired by a marine company. This was gonna cost over £200 plus new fluid and a month to order the replacement hose.
Short trip to local Pirtek branch and £10 (plus VAT) later we were back in business with the fitter creasing himself that they'd told us it couldn't be repaired. He also gave us ATF fluid to top up the hoses FOC. The Pirtek fitter said he enjoyed working on something that wasn't yellow with caterpillar tracks!

Have a Pirtek right next door to a motor factor with a lovely expensive chandlery just round the corner....Boaty heaven.
What else could a bloke with cash in his pocket ,that his wife is not aware of, want.
Just make sure you destroy all reciepts before the lady in your life checks your jeans pockets prior to them going into the washing machine . :)
Failure to do so, will mean you need to think on your feet** regards something she has recently bought, because you found the packaging hidden in the recycling bin.
** Blokes are not good at this. ?
