I am amazed by the behaviour of people in the Uk who are interpreting all advice to suit their own personal needs. Pure selfishness.

Spot on!
Unfortunately we are a society of individuals where rights and freedoms are ingrained and responsibilities and civic duty are less of a feature. There are plenty of good people doing good things but unfortunately the selfish and inconsiderate are not insignificant in number.

No going down the boat then......unless it’s your exercise walk. Certainly no trips out for 3 weeks anyway. I hope it turns the tide and people actually follow it now. Look at China....all done now as people did as they were told!

About bloody time too, should have come earlier!! The great unwashed and uneducated mass in this country are either incapable of understanding or don't give two hoots about the true horrors that are about to land upon us and whilst the educated could go about their daily tasks without being in close proximity it doesn't give off the right impression to the thicko's out there who are spreading the virus.
Reading about a Doctor's thoughts and experience on the front line in a London hospital is something everyone should read to get a true perspective of what's happening out there, most of us are not aware of the true horrors.

It would be great if that was true, but I think it might be simply raising false hope.

The test of whether this thing is "all done" is to see what happens when the controls are relaxed. They have only just begun to loosen things up in China, it will be a while before we can see if infections increase again let alone to hear if the fat lady is singing.

'Client' of mine ordered a new RIB 3 weeks ago
'Just to play on' he said
Told Him not to
'You wont be able to use it' I said
'Oh yeh, I will tow it to Wales or Scotland and find a slipway' his reply
This is a succesful businessman!
F$ckin hell
The mind definatly boggles
He collected it earlier today!
No wonder, after other daft knobs went on 'Holiday' to North Wales , Scotland etc last weekend, measures have had to be taken
Not too early either
Keep safe and isolate etc as much as you can

There seem to be a significant number of well washed and reasonably educated that are incapable or don't give two hoots as well, just read back though this and similar threads on Scuttlebutt.

So does this mean I can walk the 100 yards to launch the tender from the stern and exercise by rowing the tender up the harbour on my own?

COVID 19 - General Update

Good morning all,

This morning I wanted to update you on the latest changes at MDL Marinas following the Prime Minister’s announcement. Like all businesses, MDL is committed to protecting its staff, tenants and berth holders during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Therefore, in line with the UK Government restrictions:
You must stay at home, only leaving for the following very limited purposes:
• Shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible.
• One form of exercise a day for example, a run, walk or cycle alone or with members of your immediate household.
• Any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.
• Travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home
Please rest assured that my team are looking after the safety and security of your boat while you are at home and we will be using our digital assets over the next few weeks to bring your boat to you, helping you to view it and the marina from the comfort of your home. Don’t forget to connect to your marina’s Facebook pages to stay updated.
We will continue to monitor the Government guidance closely converting the guidelines into practical advice for those who have to work on MDL sites. This is changing day by day.

We’re also talking to our network of marinas across Europe to understand how they’ve been impacted and to learn from their best practice. We’re balancing keeping people healthy, keeping people working and always keeping people’s boats safe.

For now, if you have booked a lift out or back in to the water we will be contacting you directly to make arrangements personally for you and your boat, Please note whilst many of our office staff are working from home as they have been for the last week our phones, email and social media are on ready for you to talk to us. Our teams are on hand to assist with your questions. You can also use our centrally managed email address; enquiries@mdlmarinas.co.uk
Thank you for your ongoing support by following the Governments guidance.

Best wishes and most importantly, please stay safe.

Our club marina has just been closed, or rather will not open on 1st April as it is always closed during the winter months for dredging and maintenance. Means I will have stay in my "winter" berth but pay summer rates for however long. Ouch!!

From our marina...

In this troubling time, we hope that you and your families are managing to keep safe and well.
As a responsible business, we are doing our very best to make good decisions for all of our staff and customers, and we are asking our customers, tenants and partners to do the same. We have no compass, but we are keeping calm and plotting the most sensible course we can.
Following last night’s announcement by the Prime Minister, the latest government advice is for us all to stay at home, avoid all non-essential travel and keep social contact to an absolute minimum. The hope is that this will reduce the spread of the virus, reduce pressure on the NHS and save lives. Essential travel does not include visits to second homes or similar, whether for isolation purposes or holidays. Unfortunately, this also includes leisure boating. The government advice can be found here.
We wish to act responsibly, and in line with government advice. So although it goes against everything we stand for, we have to ask our customers to keep away from our marinas and boatyards until the situation improves. Not easy, with bright and beautiful weather out there.
We can only hope that by us all taking these restrictions seriously we can reduce the spread of this horrible disease, so that we can all get back on the water soon, in time to enjoy the summer boating season in July and August.

As from today, we are therefore taking the following steps:
  • Our customers should not be visiting our marinas or boatyards, but should be following government advice and avoiding all non-essential travel, including visiting their boat.
  • We have closed our marina receptions. Most of our office-based staff are now working remotely, so please do pick up the phone or email as you normally would. They will do their best to answer any questions or enquiries you may have about berthing, boatcare or the operation of the marina. You can continue to make payments in all the usual ways, including through our online portal.
  • We are respectfully asking customers not to “quarantine” or “isolate” themselves on their boats. You should remain in your primary residence.

You can rest assured though, we are still busy looking after your boats. We are moving to an “essential worker” only basis, with a tight but efficient team who are busy each day checking lines and fenders and making sure that your boats remain safe and sound. If there is anything you need us to do, or you have any particular concerns, just give us a ring and we will do our very best to help.
If you haven’t yet confirmed your berthing plans for the next few months, please do so as soon as possible. We hope that in this time of uncertainty you will continue to support our team while they do their utmost to take care of your boat. We ask that you support us at this time, and renew your berthing as you normally would do now. However, if you want to discuss your plans, please just give us a call.
We understand what a difficult time this is, but our whole team are firmly focused on riding out this storm with you, and we remain hopeful that the clouds will pass in time for us all to make the most of our summer boating season later in the year.
Best wishes from all the team at Dean & Reddyhoff and Quay Marinas

This is what Premier Marinas sent yesterday,
CORONAVIRUS
Staying Aboard Your Boat
We are aware that a number of our berth holders are choosing to isolate aboard their boat at this difficult time and we would like to remind everybody of the Government’s latest advice with regard to essential travel.

“Essential travel does not include visits to second homes, camp sites, caravan parks or similar, whether for isolation purposes or holidays. People should remain in their primary residence. Not taking these steps puts additional pressure on communities and services that are already at risk.”

Further, whilst stopping aboard your boat may initially seem like a good idea, it does add pressure to communal areas such as walkways and facilities where keeping the 2M rule will be extremely hard. In addition, the extra influx of people into the marina means that the risk to berth holders and staff is increased exponentially.

For these reasons, we strongly advise you to remain safely in your primary residence. During this time we will continue to manage both the security of your boat and the safety of our staff.

By urging you to adhere to Government advice we hope that we can work in partnership with you to protect our boating community.

I saw pictures today from London. Tube trains and platforms full - Absolute Muppets

I understand your sentiment. However, remember that the govt list of 'key workers' is as long as your arm. Financial workers are included and London has no shortage of those. Lots of folks still going to work because their employer expects them to, not because they want to. Clarification on specific key workers needs to come ASAP. I know plenty of people in this category who would like to stay home but are being told 'business as usual'.
