What harm can going to the boat do? If you are on your own. Have no contact with others or keep recommended safe distance. Keep to common sense practices of washing hands as you would with any other contagious illness.

On the other hand what harm can going to the shops do? All the selfish people queuing up at 6 in the morning, all next to each other, spreading their germs, touching trolleys, stockpiling food so that there is none for anybody else, crowds in the supermarkets mingling with each other, not keeping a good distance and spreading any virus they may have.

I know which one of these situations I would rather be in.
I’ve said enough on this but to condense all I have written into one sentence which answers your Q

Chose to move about when you can minimise the situations whereby you inhale others exhaled droplets .

Your first para fits that , singleton boating activity .

Your second description the U.K. shopping supermarket typical scene does not fit .

On the second in Fr earlier this week the supermarket s do a 1–1/2 hr deep clean every morning .Staff in the shop wear masks gloves etc .They have rules on distancing especially around the check out AND only admit a certain number of customers at a time .Most of the customers wear a mask as well = minimising exhaled droplet formation .

We arrived in the UK Tuesday driving through Fr and have voluntarily gone into self isolation for a week or so , incase we have inadvertently brought something back .

So haven’t been out shopping in the UK ....yet !

You live in a forest , wow any good roads in there I can bring the Escort for a blast round ? I’d of course have to ask BP permission.
On a serious note which forest ?

o_O Not one big enough for a rally car unfortunately and with just one service road. It's now a nature preserve and the wardens would likely have a hissy fit. They give me enough grief over what I can and cant plant or cut in the garden. I'm happy to pm the name if you're interested but on the forum I may as well post my address.

I'll come raft up and check your airfilters if your funbox is well stocked (Y) You can stay at home though. I see your marina's are open to visitors, we just not allowed to get off the boat. Kind of defeats the object, but the message is clear. This will be the UK soon too I gather. It's going to be a very long summer.

I work from home. I have already been in self isolation for over 30 years, and live in a forest which further isolates me. From my home 5 minutes away I tow a tender to the river. I touch nothing that is not already mine, there is absolutely no need to. My boat is in the middle of the river 50 yards from anyone else. I go to sea immediately, I do anyway. I dont get off my boat unless it's on a secluded, non accessible but from sea, cove anyway, nothing new there that's standard practise. Now I just mingle with nobody and seek seclusion. Tell me how is this irresponsible?
This is for the long haul. I have 2 preteen kids. I cant keep them in their rooms until end of summer. They too have to blow steam and get out. Where better than on a completely secluded spot far from people?
Yes I am 100% behind social distancing, what I am not is behind a knee jerk reaction and a soap box drama handed out by a brimstone and hellfire drama queen. You still have to go to shops, not doing so forces hoarding. By your own argument you're either hoarding or finding a convenient soap box. Lets rather talk about that shall we. What is the protocol for standing in queues.
I will have even less contact with people from a boat. No postmen, no couriers, no people....period. You argument in my circumstances just suck.

Did I invite you? Did I? I though I made it clear Marina Queens aka second home owners were being positively discouraged from coming to Wales. We've been waiting for years for this opportunity. Which reminds me, your beer and plonks stands to go off by the time you're allowed back. Shame for it to go to waste. I did ask before but I see a jimmy bar may be needed.

Its influenza you have presumably survived that previously so relax .Influenza has been seasonally wiping out 8000 “ vulnerable “ folks any how each year . So you have made the cut in the previous years ?

But there are some differences so it isn’t really influenza
Q&A: Similarities and differences – COVID-19 and influenza

No, Coronavirus Isn't 'Just Like The Flu'. Here Are The Very Important Differences

Many people are saying this and it has been fuelling disregard for Govt advice.

Bloody hell, the admiral just called on Messenger from out our main supermarket. Not a scrap of meat left on the shelves. Not one sausage for poor Bruce!! This is North Wales not bloody England!!

Blimmin diabolical. Any way I have bravely decreed over the phone, behind locked doors that if she brings me home hot dog sausages in a tin I'm going to eat her dog. That'll light a fire under her ass to panic buy in advance next time.

mmmmm plenty meat there. Lets hear it for staffies ? (y)

I suppose a risk assessment is in order.
risk 1 -I have to travel 1 hour to get to my boat. I could have a crash and burden the NHS. As I have not had an accidedent in over 25 years I would say the risk is low there. Risk 2 entering the marina and boat - I can enter my marina and my boat without touching anything or any one - no risk at all. risk 3 stocking the boat - I have to stock the house so a risk we all take - no added risk other than every day life.

If common sence is followed all risks can be lowered but never eliminated. I too am self employed and employ staff. Until the gov't sorts a package for everyone I will contiue to employ people to the best of my ability and come to work myself. If I can work I will visit my boat and take measures to avoid a social interaction. Can't say better than that at the moment

You may stub your toe on the pontoon?

The bottom line is very simple, people have to shop or panic buy and panic buying does no one any good as it prevents those older people who have to travel by public transport, stockpiling, or even getting many basics.

What determines an unnecessary journey, someone going to the boat for a couple of weeks means they are often not making unnecessary journeys compared to those commuting, so less people on the roads, less risk of accidents, and less strain on the NHS.

People can go out to walk dogs and exercise, what's the difference between someone walking a dog in public every day and someone getting into a car and making a trip to their boat and staying on it for a couple of weeks.

Common sense is the key, rubber gloves £1.99 per box of 100, keys in a plastic bag and the electronic tag still works, and being in the middle of the sea or river minimises the contact with others.

Basically, no insurmountable problems.

Then we have the idiots, idiots by definition are always a small minority who make life worse for the majority.

Yup but people on here insist and publicise that they are some how special. It’s clear. Stay home. Don’t travel listen to today’s press briefing. The head of the NHS was abundantly clear.
The Scottish regions are clear don’t come here and isolate. Stay home. Cornwall same. On and on.
The instructions are simple. Stay home and that includes you

These are another minority making unnecessary journeys over long distances where they will stop several times for food, toilets, etc; and not someone making a short journey to a boat without stops and remaining on the boat for several days.

These are the idiotic minority, another are those who HAVE to go to the pub and mix with others before they were all closed, sitting in close proximity, spilling out three parts pissed, and all piling into take aways, generally youngsters, not someone making a non stop journey to a boat and remaining there for a couple of weeks.

So can you see it happening where no people and no boat movements.
Can’t see why as minimal human2human contact, yes close marina club house, rest rooms, bars & restaurants but pontoons safe being outdoors like golf clubs which remain open. Just be prudent and fuel up, don’t put RNLI volunteers at risk.

At Shamrock today. Keeping my distance from everyone from the car to boat and no socialising. This will probably be the last chance for a while for me to check up and batten down the boat for few months.

There are the usual numb heads. Four guys blocking the pontoon gang way as they teach and photo someone rowing a dinghy. They seemed surprised that I even asked them to excuse me past when I could have passed by in the normal way. Why are they even out together.
