boat owners have until 26OCT18 to make contact with new management

Just thought worth putting it here as they are not giving much time so might save someone a nasty shock.

That's great news. The previous owners didn't have a clue and the place was a dump, hopefully the new owners will run the place properly. It's not in the greatest location though.

It was always a dump, but it was an affordable dump for local boats owners. It was started on a shoestring using secondhand time worn pontoons bought from GiIlingham marina and restored by local trades. The wrath of Kahn strikes again!

Indeed it was a dump. But successive government agencies were to blame for that. I wonder what those insulting our family business and applauding its' closure on this thread would have been able to produce given the same circumstances? How would they have conjured up the enormous investment required for such a large project on the short-term leases we were granted? We did our very best & ploughed every penny of our savings into the marina. We worked hard seven days a week for 27 years. As for 'didn't have a clue' - my father has over 40 years experience in this industry and I, 27 years. My father is currently in Barts Hospital with terminal cancer and kidney failure so show some damned respect. We did not simply 'run' the marina; we created it, we put it on the damned map. The eviction was illegal as Gallions Point Marina Ltd has NO court orders against it whatsoever, and we will be returning to the High Court early next week, so the matter is far from concluded. I will post updates as and when possible, but in the meantime, would those posting unpleasant and disrespectful comments please remember that they are not in possession of all the facts before doing so. Thank you.

I wish your father peace, and I hope that the outcome with your yard is positive.

Hear hear to those thoughts. On our visit to Gallions, Eric and his staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Sure, it's not exactly five-star luxury but it's good value for the money and has one of the best, if not the best, tide windows on the river.

Firstly and most importantly, i'm really sorry to hear about your dad. Really sorry, he seemed a nice guy when i met him.

I'm sorry that you'll be losing your home, as i know you live aboard a boat there, or did when i was there in Sept 2010.

As for my "dump comment", i'm afraid i have to stand by that. The place was a mess, but so was the whole area, so some new investment in the area might be a good thing.

My "didn't have a clue" comment relates to my visit in 2010 but here or now is not the appropriate place to get into details, so i'll leave it at that. Again, sorry to hear about your dad and good luck with the future.

Thank you kind Lady thank you

Extremely sorry to learn of you Fathers predicaments, do hope that given time he recovers

As for comments about the condition of this Marina / Boatyard and any others, well might venture to say that some enjoying boating these days base their expectations on those expensive marinas that cost an arm and a leg to use, never mind berth in. Others, bloke me much prefer the old traditional Boatyards where one can potter / work / chat / and get very good value from the yard owners. Never having been to this one I do not know its clientele base, which surly must dictate how the yard is indeed run, its Horses for Courses

Just hope that this has a happy ending for the owners /proprietors and that they retain their business

I have to ask, why the Police were there? It's a Civil matter. Justice always resides with the most powerful player. It would be very hard to take on the GLA with taxpayer funded Lawyers.

Blimey. What a potty mouth. Nice to see both the "it will invalidate the insurance" card and the "health and safety" card played in one sentence. Any chance we'll see it from the other side in "The Bailiffs Are Coming" or "Can't Pay - They'll Take It Away"?

She's mad, for sure, so a bit of context from that 'other side'. Banks and government bodies routinely appeal to troubled businesses to speed up their collection of debts and consider adding personal guarantees, etc. to support their case for an extended credit limit, bright new future, etc.

In reality the decision has been taken to shut them down, which they often are just before the monthly payroll, large creditor payment, etc. Totally legal, although recently somewhat tamed by the courts.

People get mad, police waste their time, and someone makes a TV program out of it. That's........
