Boat reimported to UK ….no problems!

I was the original exporter so didn’t expect any HMRC problems (but you never know!) while reimporting from Spain to the UK to sell here after 20 years in the Med.
I did have my fingers crossed re CA/UKCA status so either I don’t qualify for re inspection or they haven’t got their (whoever is responsible) act together yet.
Peters & May did the legal stuff and South West Transport managed to get me on a return load.
Good job all round I reckon.

UK economy for big ticket items is tanking at the mo , with the rate rises .
Nice thread on piston heads the Porsche section re new car availability, 450 Tycan and currently 70 911 in dealers show rooms inc many GT3 s ,Earlier this yr GT3 where trading ( overs once reg ) circa£ 240 K , now down to £190 and still not moving .Same with the rest of the range .I know it’s a snapshot barometer and many on here will argue contra .

You where advised to dump the price in Spain into the bottom quartile and get rid .Now you have to recover the trucking cost , BW s on going costs into a tanking U.K. mkt .


Good luck and do keep us informed ……so others can weigh up the situation.

The trucking cost for me was offset against pending Spanish marina fees (due Sept 1st) which are free at Burton Waters. (I got a return load so the price was relatively keen) But more important for me was my need to control the preparation process from the UK.
The local Empuriabrava brokers I spoke with didn’t fill me with confidence and I felt they saw me as someone to fleece while I was away.
UK commissions on sales are lower too.
While advertised in Spain I had 1500 hits on the boat sites (probably a dozen) that I could monitor (probably a lot more on the ones I couldn’t monitor) and in 2 months had not even a question let alone an offer so I’m not sure about the buoyancy of the Spanish/Med market.
I do appreciate all the advice given and I’m the sort of guy who is burdened with self doubt so all I can say is that I feel more comfortable with my current path than the other quite numerous options.
Time will tell

I’m feeling ok about Burton Waters. On their sales board it looks like about a quarter of their boats are under offer and both times I’ve been there, there has been a truck taking a boat away. I think it’s the norm to buy from there and take it somewhere else although the location is actually very pleasant.
If you are into used Sealine boats it’s a great place to buy because you can see the range and get a feel for price v size v age

Boat looks great! - I too think you did the right thing bringing her back to the UK, Sealines have a much bigger market in the UK plus you're close by to keep the boat looking perfect. As you say, you will also gain from the broker having a decent amount of stock. (y)

This 100% correct.
I have only owned two boats, both Sealine, and both were bought through Burton Waters.

Anyone that believes the Med/SoF market is still booming has not been following the new and used boat listings, or commentary in the media. At the Cannes show, many of the mainstream builders were offering boats for delivery in 2024 (presumably because of cancelled orders) and willing to consider sizeable discounts from list. They are all doing their best to talk up the market, but I came away with the feeling that availability of new boats for delivery in 2024 is actually quite reasonable, the number of stock boats available for immediate delivery following the boat show season is higher than last year, and its taking them longer to sell good used boats even if they are desirable models and in A1 condition. It all signals that a return to more normal levels of activity has already happened and that markets are becoming increasingly challenging.

Regarding Porto's comment on Porsche cars, the slowdown is definitely not confined to the UK. I just placed an order for a new 911 which will be delivered in December. I was offered a GT3 RS if I was willing to wait a few more months. Both were build slots that became available because of cancelled orders, and both were offered at a discount from list. This sort of availability and pricing was unheard of a year ago.

I guess some used boats will be sold but the brokers local to me now have plenty of boats advertised while it seems not very long ago they were almost running out of boats to sell .
I suspect there will be a lull in sales now which will persist over winter as was often the case in the past.

Shows the importance of a well presented boat. Competition for a sale is going to be tough. There did seem to be quite a lot of sales activity at Burton Waters though.
Good time to buy if you have the cash.

100% agree. Cannes was quiet. Loads of availability now on new boats for early 2024 or even 2023 delivery. Unsold slots and a few cancelled orders. One of the turns offs with boat dealers currently is that they not accept this and will only talk list price, so if you want to find out the real price you have to commit to loads of to/fro discussion time and dancing around handbags. And they lose time-poor customers who want to cut to the chase.

Late 2020 - early 2022, anything that floated was selling. But now it looks like we are back to a very much more traditional market going into late 2023.

Realistically priced, well presented top notch examples are still selling well.... but everything else, not so much.

Yours was probably the nicest example on the market and not the most expensive... that was the key to your success. Hope all goes well for you with survey etc.
