Day skipper theory for DoE Bronze Skill?

We’ve signed up for a correspondence day skipper course. I thought about YM but I don’t want to scare her off! The instructor is very happy to send an email each week detailing the modules she’s done etc. apparently they are used to it. We’ve gone with ardent training. She will probably...

Day skipper theory for DoE Bronze Skill?

Thanks for all the advice. I think engaging with the instructor is the way forward. It may be more than needed but it’s a useful skill that she gets to apply next summer on our cruise. Will check with her DoE team tomorrow and report back

Day skipper theory for DoE Bronze Skill?

My darling daughter is doing her DofE bronze and I am trying to persuade her that getting her DS theory would be an excellent way of gaining a new skill. But most courses near us (essex) are structured as 8 evenings and a weekend and DoE requires minimum 12 weeks. Correspondence might be ok if...

Help! At sea with overheating engine

Hi - I have a hot engine within 30 mins of leaving anchorage today. Battery charging and temp lights on. The coolant water is a good level but is warm. Strainer is clear. Impeller is good. Belt tension good. But the freshwater coolant reservoir is hot so there is clearly an overheating issue...

    Boatyards along Fiumicino Canal

Hi - I’m looking for a cheap place to winter Options this year near Rome. In the past I’ve stayed at Max’ boatyard - Cantiere Albula - but it looks as if he’s closed. Anyone have a contact or can recommend somewhere? We’re a sailing boat a bit under 12m. Hope not to have any work to do...

Buying a Greek boat VAT - has not been payed.

it seems to me the worst that can happen is one day you might be asked to pay VAT. Eg if you go to Turkey and back and “reimport the boat”. I bought a boat with no proof of vat. I kept the liability in my account for 5 years then stopped because of what everyone has said especially tranona...

    Survey for insurance renewal

I changed insurers to Pantaneius as my previous, German insurers said it was too hard after Brexit. New insurer asked for survey but accepted my original 2012 purchase survey annotated by me e.g. life raft replaced in x, spray hood replaced y etc.
