Was actually looking for the equivalent of Reeds Almanac but for the Western Med.
Got the Bloc Marine, but that doesn't really cover much of the Spanish Med coast.
A decent cruising guide would be good too provided it's fairly recent.
So, any recommendations?
Boat's kept on a swinging mooring all year (no shore power).
All 3 deck hatches have vents.
This year, we've had pretty much continuous rain since mid-October.
All bedding, etc... has been removed from the boat.
Mold seems to be a serious problem this year: ceiling & bulkheads.
Every 6-8 weeks...
Planning to move the boat (and ourselves) to Southern France in the not too distant future.
Plan to settle/berth the boat somewhere between Perpignan and the Spanish border.
Was wondering what the Winter (sailing) weather was like in that part of the world.
Do they ever?
Does it only apply to some models?
Does it only apply to wooden boats and not GRP ones? Is there such a thing as a 'plastic classic'?
Etc...
When I turned the key, nothing happened. Though I could hear the engine going 'clunck' down below.
After a couple of tries, it started wanting to turn over.
And eventually it did.
When I got down below, the low voltage alarm on the plotter was blaring.
My first thought was that the battery is...
Can an accidental dollop of antifoul on the echosounder transducer cause it to stop working?
And if so, how best to remove the antifoul (boat is still on the hard for a couple of days).
Thanks

This Winter, I'm looking to install, at long last, an electric windlass on the boat.
I've a shortlist of 3 possible options.
In no particular order:
1. Lofrans X2
2. Lewmar VX2+
3. Maxwell RC10-8
I would love to hear from people who have any of these installed.
The good, the bad, etc...

Our ageing electronic autopilot seems to be on its last legs.
The screen is still OK (most of the time) but apart from the 'Auto' and 'Stand By' buttons nothing else works.
Changing course means disengaging the autopilot, bringing the boat on the desired course and re-engaging the autopilot.
And...
Looking for the previous experience of some users.
Predictwind offers various for their weather routing (PWG, PWE, ECMWF, GFS, UKMO, ...) - and the significant differences between their forecasts/routings struck me.
As always, a man with a watch knows the time but a man with two watches is...
Is it possible to access your Iridium email inbox online when you're not connected to Iridium?
I would like to check my mail when ashore on my laptop rather than on my mobile.
Many thanks.
Wasn't aware of these things till only very recently, but has anyone any experience of these?
Was considering maybe adding one of these next winter: EFOY fuel cells by SFC Energy - Product overview
All feedback greatly appreciated.
In preparation for the new season, I had a boar clearout this afternoon and came across a couple of East Coast memorabilia...
Hardly used.
FMYC burgee (circa 2010)
Oostende voor Anker 2006-2008-2012-2015
As you can tell, they haven't seen daylight for some time.
The UK East Coast...
Preparing for the new season and having a boat clearout.
I came across these - does anyone have any idea what they are and what you would use them for on a boat?
I'd hate to chuck them out only to find out later I need them.
Best suggestion I've had so far is 'manhold lifting keys'.
Many thanks.
Covid willing, the plan is to venture further offshore this Summer.
Ideally, I would have both.
However, a naval pension only stretches so far...
Sailing singlehanded, which one would you certainly get if you could only afford one of them? (advice on which make/model also appreciated).

In view of some offshore sailing in the (hopefully) not to distant future, I am thinking of getting windvane selfsteering.
So far, I've looked at Hydrovane and Aries.
If I were to buy new, for my boat, it would set me back about 5K Euro.
Even used kit still fetches a premium price.
Now...
