    The Decent Oyster

On a similar theme watched an interesting utube on a kraken 50 the other day by the Atticus utubers . I suspect not many Kracken yachts about either secondhand yet.

They seem still quite rare in 40ftish sizes so someone still loves them .

A National Campaign to Encourage Architects to Provide Decent Marina Facilities

If you go to Berthon in Lym it’s rumoured some facilities give e massage included in the berthing fee but seriously there are a limited number of adequate facilities but in summer months with charter boats these can become very busy. Other issues are communal shower blocks causing delays in user...

Liveaboard marinas on the southcoast UK

Gosport has improved in recent years boasting more supermarkets than you would believe with Morrisons,Aldi and Asda all in walking distance plus an m&s on way in ans Waitrose at alverstoke. Cook will even deliver you single liveabord meals to the marina office I’m told to stock up your freezer ...

    Switching from marina to mooring

When I first started sailing as a lad we had a non walk ashore pontoon on medina near folly . The hard dingy was fine if you had a small trailer 2 wheels to take down slip. Could be a chore getting ashore on low tide . My main issue though when later at Wicormarine was all the faff of river...

"Lightweight" dinghy for 2 adults - pico alternative

I think in suggesting the Topper I was going for a cheap option to be sold on after a year/2 years on basis the idea was to avoid a Lazer but trips learnt as a child in a Lazer can also be learnt in a topper . Once 2 up sailing is more the norm then you really need to know the area and...

"Lightweight" dinghy for 2 adults - pico alternative

Personally for a 13 year old I would just buy him a cheap Topper secondhand -my daughter at 5ft ish bought from sea scouts second hand and sold it on a few years later - we did sail a few times 2 up but not really comfortable . You really need to decide usage I guess and your degree of...

Liveaboard marinas on the southcoast UK

We are a Haslar boat and I recall for a few years a couple with 2 young boys always seemed to be on board their cat ,a heavenly twin maybe, and no one seemed to mind. You often see couples who are planning to go on the ARC spending a long time on board perhaps with occasional commute across...

    Newtown Creek

The beach is still there next to the BSC last time I looked. For centaurs and suchlike it has been popular since the 1970s and looks much the same.

Beaulieu has always been pricy but maybe to deter some visitors not able to dine in the pub maybe.

    Newtown Creek

Bembridge trying to maximise yield as looking for a purchaser no doubt and unable to fund essential ground repairs I gather from harbour trust info seen . I haven’t visited this year but the harbour trust seems to have a number of issues with the couple who run the marina which really needs...

Berthing as a visitor to a marina - max size?

Would be great if all marina had a proper booking system though . Some places on the Solent seem to be booked months in advance though. A marina berth aggregator site maybe ? I believe at yacht haven if a permanent bertholder you get a token payment if the berth is used in absence but surely an...

    Bluebird

Resurrecting an old thread to say I had a great trip on the restored national trust steam vesssel yesterday with a very informative guide . Sadly we didn’t have time to visit the Ruskin museum but I just wanted really to say for anyone in the Lakes do book a trip on the lake on the NT vessel...

Berthing as a visitor to a marina - max size?

All I c§an say is 10.8m is easier to manoeuvre around generally lighter in an AWB whe area at 12.8m we need more time and space to turn . An oyster 46 say would be lovely but berthing would be harder as a visitor than a 41footer in Solent maybe but you are more self sufficient with the genset...

Route planning, Solent to the Clyde

Some friends of ours sailing Polaris of Helvetia left Haslar and ended up in Largs and have posted a number of utube vids. I’m sure many others have done likewise so if looking for general advice on stop offs their site might be worth a look plus of course Concerto in his westerly who I had...

    Raystar 125 looses Fix

I had read somewhere these 125 raystar pack up after 8 or so years? How old is it ? If you are near Haslar marina there is an electronics man there if you can get hold of him in one of units by car park .

    Calorifier is it worth it

All I can say is when in some foreign marina showering on board can often be simpler than the use of the token jeton ashore

    Calorifier is it worth it

Westerly never had such modern devices but we survived however having a hot shower off the stern after a cold swim does make life more comfortable in uk at least but I guess if no shower fitted might be less useful if you have a kettle to boil to wash up

    Save Weir Wood Sailing Club

It looks to me like a factual dispute as to whether the tenants have complied with terms of lease eg the repairing obligations and whether these matters are the tenants or landlord obligations maybe. Such disputes are often complex turning on facts but also where it exists decided case law on...
