    Channel Island fuel prices

No but if something goes up in value and you're holding 100,000 litres of the stuff then you increase prices accordingly and enjoy some profit. It's fair to say if prices go down you will try to delay your price reduction until you've got rid of the stuff you paid a higher price for.

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

I can only report what I have been told and that related to IPT. I was actually told it related to IPT being charged when the VP agents did work and claimed off VP themselves which as I said at the time sounds rather far fetched. The automotive world uses warranties and charges IPT - we were...

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

I would not buy a Tesla. I did buy a pair of big VP engines. Once again, whilst I may disagree with what constitutes industrial usage / risk the withdrawal affects recreational users as well as commercial. The conversation went along the lines of not being able to provide cover and in any case...

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

Having been on the website I suspect the additional 3 years refers to things like a cracked block, crankshaft and so on rather than the all encompassing warranty that came with handing over your £12k

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

I was told it related to issues surrounding insurance premium tax. VP knew about the issue when we took delivery of our boat but thought their legal / accounting / head office experts would be able to find a workaround solution but this was not the case so they stopped offering it suddenly...

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

For recreational users who took delivery of their boats in early 2023 there is no warranty available from VP to give 5 years cover. Given the initial difficulty in making contact with VP via their website my guess would be an out of date website.

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

My conversations with Samantha Hindson took place over a number of months and she in turn had conversations with the larger VP family. I didn’t just doorstep her or catch her unawares. She was a very amenable person fully able to put points across but sadly not able to replicate the previously...

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

Let’s not get sidetracked by trying to re-write or interpret VP’s ambiguous terms and conditions. VP withdrew the warranty cover for all customers including recreational. The withdrawal was EU wide not just here in the UK. When discussing the matter with the head of VP and Ireland she...

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

It’s much easier bypassing the underlings and going directly to the big dog. It removes Chinese whispers and ensures any message is delivered precisely and to the point.

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

I was merely quoting the words of the VP warranty when taken as written. My dealings with them have highlighted a surprising lack of understanding as to how their products are used.

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

VP have confirmed we have an initial 2 year warranty on the engines. It is the extension to 5 years for a fee which has been removed from circulation.

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

The terms refer to “revenue generation”. By taking money for fuel you are generating revenue. When I spoke to the head of VP in the UK and Ireland her concern surrounding charter and definition of it was the act of providing a bareboat rental service. She assumed we handed someone the keys to...

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

There is no warranty available leisure, commercial or otherwise. According to that definition if any of your guests ever donate to fuel your warranty would be invalidated.

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

Our last boat was bought brand new second hand and had CAT C12 engines. No extended warranty was offered or indeed required as it transpires. The current boat was ordered new and built to our spec as first owners. A Volvo Penta 5 year protection plan was widely promoted during the build process...

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

Indeed. I have had some success in the past fighting my own battles without the need to involve S Class Mercedes S Class drivers. Common sense is and always will be common sense.

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

Yes, potentially that looks like comprehensive cover and includes things like the throttle controls and associated ECUs. We have to consider whether failure of any of the covered components would be deemed unreasonable on an up to 5 year old boat owned by the original buyer and serviced by the...

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

Princess were fully aware of our intended use. Indeed we work with them to provide charter provision within the Solent. They provided a quotation for extended cover with a 3 month window. This will have been partly to cover any cost increase and I suspect an element of inducement to purchase...

Volvo Penta no longer provides warranties on their engines

A number of points raised by various people. Thank you. Yes, it was an aftermarket warranty which I think came from an American company from what I could glean talking to various people. The benefit of buying a Volvo branded warranty even if it was actually supplied by a third party was that...
