As soon as the panels are made to be walked on the efficiency plummets and I don’t want a big goal post style arch on the stern for decent panels.
Maybe flexi roll outs may work in the future.
You’re correct in saying no solar, being UK based and marina berthed I cannot see the point. If I start cruising and anchoring a lot I might need a bit more from somewhere, I’ll worry about that in the future.
I may put a fuel cell on board, otherwise I’ll rely on the 110 amp alternator on the...
I quite agree. I went from a Flexofold to Featherstream on my current boat. The Feather is absolutely brilliant in reverse and instant brakes, but over £2k. And no point in going for a Flexo, its as expensive as a Feather.
I’m just pondering whether to go up from a stsndard Volvo 2 bladed folder to a Gori 3 bladder. Having two rudders will make speed of the essence when landing which will mean even stronger nerves!
I can almost hear the crunch already. Best remember a stem fender.
If I go for a thruster it will be the new generation Lewmar and I’ll anticipate a problem sometime in the future. I deffo wouldn’t bother if I was always going to be 3 plus on board but that often won’t be the case.
Learning curves are all the rage I’m told.
The other decision at the mom is...
The smallest side power thruster is too big so it will have to be a Lewmar, who have no dealer network and spares can take ages but unlike Flamming I don't often have a harem to help on take off and landing. Shorthanded or solo I suspect will be cheaper in the long run.
The power winch I am...
A gantry with solar is v v heavy so will have a couple of solar panels on the coach roof. Lithium batteries. Maybe a fuel cell but no Watt and Sea at the mom. Expensive and probably unnecessary I suspect. The D130 has a big alternator, I’ll see how things pan out.
Big decisions this week are...
According to the gospel of JPK the lifting keel Is purely for shallow berthing. Sails should not be used with the keel up and it is not designed to take the ground. Hence my deciding not to go down that route.
Not sure I intended to stir up gruesome tales of severed limbs and powered winches...
I'm waiting for JPK to give me a quote for a JetThruster but may simply use a couple of big fenders!
The boat is due to be built at the end of the year so now I just have time to ponder. The biggest decision is the keel. 1.8m or 2.15m? At the moment I am leaning towards the 2.15 but that could...
I’m not aware of thr make but the drop down mechanism is considered unreliable. I currently have a tunnel thruster,👍👍, but have had words with some repair outfits over here and the drop downs don’t get a good press.
I’m not trying to controversial but I won’t be having a drop down.
