I’m not usually a wooden boat kind of guy, but I’ve always had a soft spot for these boats. There’s a nice example for sale at the mo and it occurred to me that I’ve seldom seen them mentioned on The Forum. Anyone on here ever owned or helmed one?
I’m surprised that everyone so far thinks the cost is not extortionate. A grand for two batteries and the gubbins to fit them? My mate’s a decent marine electrician (decent in both senses of the word) and I’ll ask him what he would charge for such a job, but I’d be very surprised if it was more...
Can’t help thinking What Three Words would be useful here. Fish Spanner Monkey is a lot easier to remember than a two strings of numbers.
Edit: I mean in addition to lat/long, not replacing it, obviously.
As you say, the ohms must match. Is there a tech spec on the replacement sender advert? Have you tried putting a multimeter on sender outputs and measuring resistance as float rises? Just to check it’s not the gauge that’s faulty.
Any pastime is likely to be more dangerous in the US as there are so many bullets flying randomly about. I once saw a film where, when they were really happy, the cowboys would fire their sidearms into the sky. It’s a health and safety nightmare.
All I’m trying to say is that golf cart batteries ARE deep cycle. You said:
That is incorrect. Golf cart batteries- all of them - are deep cycle. The reason being, golf carts don’t have starter motors and therefore their batteries are never required to belt out upwards of 300 amps turning an...
Once again you’re making no sense. Trojan T105 6v batteries are used primarily in golf carts and are a ‘true’ deep cycle battery. They’re NOT just the 6v version of a truck battery and the manufacturer strongly recommends they NOT be used for engine starting.
From their website: “Trojan's...
Apols - typo. I meant to say can you provide a link to a 12v lithium leisure battery WITHOUT a BMS. You said that many don’t have them - I was querying that.
Sorry, but that’s nonsense. If you google “12v LiFePo leisure battery” or just plain old “12v lithium battery” all the search results these days will be for a battery that INCLUDES a BMS. You can buy cells without a BMS, indeed many do, but if people are advertising a 12v leisure battery, if...
Helluva thing to do but am I the only one that is disappointed to find that they’re not using a manky auld 8ft fibreglass job with badly repaired gunwales and mismatched rowlocks? You know, the kind lent up in the racks of your local boatyard?
Well, apols for putting the cat amongst the pigeons, I’d put in a lithium phosphate battery. There’s really very little in it now price-wise per amp hour, and unless OP’s boat is plugged into shore power regularly a lead acid battery is unlikely to receive the charging it needs, whereas a...
