My boat will be on a swinging mooring this season for the first time during my ownership.
Her foredeck arrangement is shown in the photo below:
According to its instructions, the manual Simpson Lawrence winch is not designed to take a permanent mooring load - which is a pity as it's...
A strange title for a thread I know, but that's the noise we get when motoring.
The truth is, whilst I'm delighted with our Storm's sailing performance, I've never been happy when motoring.
In our ownership, we've had the alignment checked, the shaft's straightness checked, and we've changed...
The cutlass bearing on my Westerly Storm needs replacing again. It's a fairly standard arrangement with a P bracket.
The last time it was done the engineer removed the propshaft to do it. This required removal of the rudder, which meant the boat had to be lifted from its cradle to provide the...
My overheat alarm certainly seems to think so and, on the basis that they're supposed to be reliable and to blame the sender unit seemed like wishful thinking to me, I've believed it up until now.
It's a freshwater cooled engine (from new I believe) and the alarm sounds if I run the engine for...
Purchased in May 2015 and used in a Standard Horizon plotter for a summer Baltic cruise.
It is the version dated 18-Feb-15, code M-EN-M299.32 which I believe was first made available in April/May 2015.
The best internet price I've found for the current version (there has been one update since...

I've never had a problem with the starter side of this engine until now. After about a month without being used, I turned the key to start the engine and nothing happened.
When the key is turned, there is 12v to the spade terminal on the solenoid. There is a barely perceptible click from the...

I'm considering installing a solar panel and know little about them.
Semi-flexible seem to be the most practical for me, but the prices for apparently similar spec panels vary hugely.
Can anyone explain why the 70w semi flexible kit on this page...
Anyone re-engined and got one in good condition that's surplus to requirements?
Toying with the idea of replacing with a Bowman, but a genuine part would make life so much easier!
Cheers,
Rob

After the first 2 mins, it's all much the same. Just left it running to show that it wasn't a short queue.
The video shows the first 40 mins after the gate opened (sped up, of course!). The traffic didn't tail off much for over an hour, by which time the tide had risen by almost 4...
The alarm on my Storm just gives a brief "chirrup" when I turn the key before starting the engine. The low oil pressure, charge and water temp lights all illuminate as expected. If I press the alarm test, the buzzer gives a continuous sound for as long as the button is pressed.
I'd expect the...
I'll be checking my boat at Chichester marina on Saturday so if anyone would like me to give their boat the once over after the winds we've been having lately, just let me know. I live very close to Northney marina so can also call in there to check boats if anyone would like me to.
Cheers.
Rob
I'll be going to Chichester marina boxing day to check my boat over after (and before!) the storm. If anyone would like me to check theirs, just let me know. I can also stop off at Northney as I live very close to there.

A post on the Motor Boat forum prompted me to review the information I'd registered on the CG66 scheme.
I knew I'd recently changed my mobile phone number. What I hadn't realised was that I'd bought a DSC VHF, changed the colour of my deck paint, changed the colour of my antifoul, bought new...
Has anyone got one of the above going spare? Following an engine swap perhaps?
I've asked before without success, but thought I'd give it another go!
I'm looking for a replacement for my dodgy key switch - as fitted to the 2002 18hp instrument panel.
Failing that, has anyone identified a...
